Looking to buy a 6th gen

I currently have a 1996 4-door grand am se, and it is for sale. Once it sells i'm going to buy a 6th gen celica(probably a 94-96, i need to get one cheap), hopefully for around 3500 or so. I'm starting my ga at 5000, so i'll have some money to fix any minor problems that pop up(if they do).

I need some advice on what too look for in the 6th gen model, and what any common problems are. Also, i'm open to alternatives to a celica, i want a couple/hatch that gets at least 30 mpg, and it's gotta be a stick ... all this for less than 4 grand.

Any advice on what to look for or anyone with a celica for sale, please reply, any help is appreciated.
