Yukon Passlock system/ remote start

I have a 2000 Yukon, I think that it has a Passlock system.
The problem is that I'm having a remote starter installed by a tech that has put these in many cars but is having a problem with mine.
He told me that he didn't see any sign of a Passlock in my car.
He also told me that I have to buy an optional part for the tach hookup.
The remote starter is an Audiovox Prestige APS685.
Anyone have any suggestions.

1st, run and do not walk away from that remote starter. I just pulled another one last week in a new Dakota. The wires all go hot and melted. It never blew any fuses. I have no idea what kept it from catching on fire.

2nd, ALL Yukons have Passlock period! If he thinks otherwise, again run and do not walk from this person. Maybe he's thinking of the old VATS system with the "chip" in the key???? Optional part for tach hookup???? Is this guy serious???? Is this Yukon a diesel or something?

Ponch thanks for your help.
Do you know where the remote starter should be tied into the tach?
It sounds like there is a dc output from the comp. to the tach on the dash.
The optional part for the tach was used to attach to three coils at the spark plugs to give you a tach output. I guess?
As far as the passlock is concerened, this guy said that he is use to seeing a module located somewhere under the dash, that he didn't see on mine. So he figured that the truck didn't have it.
I was told that it may be built into the computer. Does this sound right?

One more thing. Is there a place where I could get a schematic of the wiring of my Yukon? Color code etc.

Re: Yukon Passlock system/ remote start

I personally would stay away from any remote start system if its not a Viper. As far as the tach hook up goes, it is not actually required on most vehicles. A local install shop by me never connects it unless the system doesn't work properly (car wont always start). But if you do use it you should be able to catch a tach wire by the spark plugs. I am not aware of any special moduale for this, but anythings possible. I did see an add on peice for my '03 Denali (on eBay) to make the stock alarm work properly with an aftermarket alarm/remote start, but I havn't installed a remote start yet, so I havn't reallly researched whether or not this peice is nessacery.

Seriously, I wouldn't ahve this person work on your truck. Every experienced installer knows that ALL of the GM trucks have had these or simular systems since the late 90's. I 2nd the notation to only use DEI (Directed Electronics) items whether they are Viper, Sidewinder, Valet, Python, ect..

Yes, there are many ways to get a tach signal. I ALWAYS suggest using tach/fuel injector vs. voltage sense. Almost every one I have seen has eventually had problems with voltage sense. The reason has to do with extreme temps. especially when very cold. The unit thinks the car had started but many times it doesn't and then here you have the full ignition and lights on for who knows how long. Plus, with DEI product, you lose Valet take over when tach. is not used. Many people love the idea to be able to take the key out and have it keep running while they run inside a store.
