First of all, I should say Hello. New to the forum, but not to the import scene. Here's some filler info:
-My name is Chad. -Mercedes-Benz tech for a dealer here in Denver. -Have owned 1991 Galant VR-4 #1513/2000 since 1998. Turned up the boost that day. 20psi w/ a big16G, FMIC, 550's, 13" Baer brakes and 17" Kosei K1's (anthracite) since 1999. (14.03 at 97.42 at Bandimere [5800 ft ASL] w/ 1.85 60ft. 3480 lbs total weight) -New owner of first love, '90 Civic Si. High mileage, not a concern. Paint, bad. Not a concern. Body, good. Interior, immaculate. Purchased from middle aged, female, ORIGINAL owner. -I Pondered the B series swaps, but a well built, turbo D16A6 would be more gratifying. I'll give up a little power. I'm already ahead of my other car by about 1000lbs. This car is in some ways, already more fun. ---Now my Question. I read the stickys and did a search but did not find what I was looking for. I see auctions all over Ebay and elsewhere for D16 turbo manifolds. I need to know who makes a good CAST manifold w/ an external gate fitting, that fits the H/B? I've seen a few HF manifolds but don't want to go that route. Not concerned about the loss of A/C. I doesn't look like a 3" downpipe could fit w/ it anyway. Thanks, Chad |

Yeah for turbo A6's!!!
Revhard makes a nice cast manifold, but I think you will be happier with the tubular style. When properly braced they are just as durable, and they improve spool up (and overall power) considerably. Check out Honda-Tech.com, the Forced Induction forum is kickass. -Dustin

cast manifolds are generaly found in full turbo kits, and since you are dealing with a D-series this makes it even more rare.
A cast manifold will typicaly run you more money and rob horsepower Vs. a Stainless steel Equal lenght manifold. Now places Like SSautochrome sell the Manifolds like they are going out of style, and the have a 35mm external wastegate or some with the Greddy/HKS wastegate adaptor. you probably have your reasons for wanting a cast manifold, so keep an eye peeled is the only advice i can give for that at this time. Check out lovefab.com they have some awesome turbo manifolds in many different styles. I'm going with the Shorty manifold when I start my project this spring. Also check out turbod16.com . Thanks so much for actually reading the stickies and using the search, not many people can do that.

I made my own manifold useing cast elbows and some flanges. It works nice.
I am assuming your used to using cast manifolds (DSM w/ a 16G is probably the stock one right?). I have noticed DSM people (my brother is one) seem to think tubular manifolds crack easier than cast, even if their stock cast manis are cracked to shit. It is more about design and material selection (must be correct for aplication) than cast or tube. -Dustin

Max boost is a very bad way to measure it. If you have alot of headwork, your max boost will be lower than someone who is stock. Different compression, etc...
Stock sleeves will hold 350whp er so. Blockguards haven't shown much for improvement other than preventing sleeve walk at high RPM. They don't reinforce the sleeve really, they just keep it from moving (preventing blown headgaskets and abnormal wear). -Dustin

Here is the setup I will be running when i get more $$:
-SS Autochrome Manifold/DP/WG -T3/T4 (.57 compressor trim, 60 A/R compressor houseing, .63 A/R turbine housing, ball bearings) -Turbo edit ECU/RTP chip -Modified B16 rods -1G GTE (1G Toyota supra turbo) pistons -Welded blockguard -port work -Isky valve springs, stock retainers/valves/cam I'm hoping for 400whp and a 9k redline. -Dustin

http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/259508 I found out about the B16 rod/supra piston combo on Honda-Tech, is has been proven to 2 bar of boost. I am pretty sure the guy who sells the combo has dyno proven it at nearly 450whp with stock sleeves. I need to look it up again so i can order them. -Dustin
