ETS and Engine Light and head lights

My girlfriend just bought a 97 Sunfire and the engine light is always on. I have checked the engine over and nothing is wrong with it, it sounds fine and all the filters are fine. Not sure what is wrong with it, any ideas?

Also we have the button for the ETS on the shifter, if the car is in park the button can be on or off, well the light goes on or off, and if the car is in drive there is nothing. Is this because the car does not have ETS or what?

The headlights are shit! They are running lights that or ok for running but don't work at all for night driving, she has to hold on the brights to see anything. There is no way to leave the brights on but holding them, is this a housing problem or wiring? We tried new bulbs and nothing!

I had the same problem with this site... No Help.

Goto domestictunerz.com and look under Tech. Q&A. This site is for domestic sport compact cars. You will get a lot of help from here.

For my two cents, the "service" light (diff't than check engine) has been on since I owned the thing. 00 Sunfire. Who cares. Probably a loose bulb somewhere. If it's the check engine light it is probably an O2 sensor, PCV valve or something exhaust related. You should notice rough idling or running gradually getting worse with this.

Don't know anything about the ETS.

As for the lights, it almost sounds like you are not turning the "on/off" knob on. The running lights are designed for daytime (why they are dimmer) and you cannot turn the brights on except to hold the switch in.
If you are in fact turning the lights on properly, I'd say the problem is definitely in your switch.

Regards

Ted.

just a quick note, the ETS light can sometime be caused by a loose gas cap, but also could mean a number of things, so check gas cap first, then reset computer by unhooking it for 15 to 30 minutes, then run test (IE: make sure light is off)..if still on i would suggest a drive to the garage for a code check as the ets light can be almost anything related to sensors..

Dont know if you still have the car or not, but if you do and havent fixed the problems my girlfreind also has a 97 sunfire gt. Headlight did the same thing, she had to hold on the brights and it turned out to be the headlight switch. Cost $20 at the reckers and very easy to change. Common problem. As for the dash lights, the same ones were on in her car for 2 years until i finally bought a engine code scanner and it is because of the torque converter performance module, it is either burnt out or stuck off. Once you get that fixed your ets and engine light will go off. ETS Electronic Traction Control System.

Because of the age of this post, i'm ignoring the post but instead, I want to comment on the replies.

What do you want more, 20+ replies saying "I don't Know" or 20 + replies of people blowing smoke up your butt to satisfy you?

I only reply to the things that I have positive information about.

Maybe other people do to... think before you get mad because you don't get help.
