replacing !?!PLASTIC!?! tanks on radiator

ok, im pissed. who is the moron at GM with the brilliant idea to use PLASTIC for the tanks on the radiator. grrrr..... mine have about 3 inches of cracks, and its growing, i can only keep my radiator about 3/4 full.

the skinny:
radiator shop wants 400 bucks for a new radiator. 38 bucks for each tank, and 75 bucks for labor to install the tanks on my OLD heater.

anyone ever had to do this? should i replace the whole radiator? could i change the plastic tanks myself? should say say screw it all and get an aftermarket radiator(if so, what kind?)? please leave me some suggestions, i know this is a lot of questions.

GM has been using plastic tanks on their radiators for a while now. I had a 1986 Camaro that was installed from the factory with the plastic tanks on the radiator. I would recommend replacing the entire radiator with a new one. I just don't trust replacing just the tanks. You might want to shop around on the internet for an OE style radiator if costs is an issue.
