The violent radical group called ELF is believed responsible for vandalizing five Hummers in Northwest Arkansas. A Hummer owner was quoted by Arkansas' KHBS/KHOG as explaining that, "he walked outside last week and found his vehicle with slashed tires, broken windows, dents, and a sandwich shoved in the gas tank." Although ELF portrays itself as an "environmental" group, it is important to note that few real environmentalists will have anything to do with the ELF thugs. As one environmentalist who is against SUVs noted that he is also strongly opposes ELF's actions. "It's terrible," he said. "I'm an environmentalist, but I totally deplore what they are doing."
Policy changes can and should only be achieved through the open democratic process, not through violence and intimidation.
