Are You A Safe Driver?

I've been thinking about this one alot. What would you consider to be safe drivers, and do you think you are one?

Background Info On This Topic: Recently I was told that I'm not a safe driver because I do 30 in a 25 oh my my I'm such a rebel. But it got me thinking if I really am a safe driver, and I thought it would be an interesting topic to discuss.

Personally I think I am a safe driver because I don't speed excessively, I don't drag race in school zones or play with hookers while driving or whatever the un-safe driving practices are.

Ok look.... drag racing in school zones is OK just so long as you don't mow down the "special students" and the whole hooker this is OK so long as you have 50% vision.

It depends on your definition of "safe." Elderly people tend to think that going 10-15 mph BELOW the speed limit is safe, while other people think that going down the road doing 150 mph BUT in a car that has a roll cage and while they are wearing a helmet is safe. I'm not quite a safe driver considering I speed, but other than that I think I am.

Re: Re: Are You A Safe Driver?

I always check my blind spots, signal, only speed so as not to impede traffic, NEVER run red lights, etc. I have never ran into another car (that was my fault, anyway) but I have been rear-ended - stopped at a STOP sign, of all things. I keep my car in reasonable condition - good tires, working brakes, working lights, etc.

And I drive w/ my headlights on 24/7. Try it, you will find that almost no one cuts you off anymore - because you are the most visible car on the road.

I think I do pretty well.

But then, that is the one factor that unites all people regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic status, age, and gender - We ALL believe we're better-than-average drivers.

Re: Are You A Safe Driver?

I do think Im a safe driver. I make all necessary steps to do things correctly when driving, I dont speed excessivly(at least with people around ) and I take into consideration everything around me. Not only that, but I have to drive 45-50 thousand dollar vehicles at work, so I have to be a good driver and make sure that nothing happens to those vehicles.

I consider myself a safe driver. Most of the time, I'm used to bumper to bumper traffic. The most important thing in driving is to leave space for other drivers.

I consider myself safe. I don't speed excessively, drive erratically or overly aggressive, and I try to be as calm and polite and courteous as possible to all the other FUCKING ASSHOLE DICKHEAD COCKSMOKER DRIVERS out there.

Yeah, I'm a calm and sensible driver. Never had a case of road rage.

Re: Re: Are You A Safe Driver?

I'm a safe driver cos i know two things:
1) my limits
2) my car's limits

That's not to say i don't overstep them from time to time, but it's the exception rather than the rule.

Re: Are You A Safe Driver?

Of course I'm a safe driver. Anyone who can successfully read the paper, drink coffee, have sex, chop speed and drive at the same time has gotta be a safe driver.

Re: Are You A Safe Driver?

lol oz, thats great. I consider myself a safe driver, ive only hit one person, and at that time iw as goign under 10 mph, and she was stopped at a green light, there was no damage done to either car at all. I have avoided at least 20 accidents cause no one pays atention to what they are doign here in detoirt. And that is over about 4 years, theiditos here will enver cease to amaze me.

I think overall I'm a safe driver. I do the same as Boingo. Check the blind spots, signal when turning(although sometimes I don't signal when changing lanes ). I hardly use my mirrors when on the road, I prefer to look to the left and right before changing lanes. And while I always keep an eye on the guy in front of me, i try to keep an eye on the guy in front of him too.
