Keyless Entry (yep...another one)
Hello All!
I am a newbie to this Dodge forum, and I look forward to learning much about my truck from the experience of you folks. I pulled a boneheaded stunt and lost the ONLY remote transmitter for my 98 Dodge Ram 1500 keyless entry system. It is a factory keyless entry system, and I miss it very much. In a string of emails a while back, a fellow told me that it was possible to program remotes for these trucks up to model year 2000, and that it could be done without having another "good" remote, and that there was no need for the dealership to do it with thier OBD. He wanted to sell me a remote, so I don't know if what he was telling me was exactly truthful or not. He wasn't willing to share the procedure unless I bought the remote...sounds fishy to me, but if he really does know, then someone else must know also! I would like to purchase one on Ebay and program it for my truck, but I need some advice on this. Does anyone out there know of a good method for programming these things, or am I stuck just buying one and having the dealer do it for me? Best Regards, and thanks in advance! |

Re: Keyless Entry (yep...another one)
try and find out the company that made the alarm usually they will share the instructions on reprograming, and im sure you can find a remote on ebay for cheap. I did the same thing with my 98 eclipse.

Thanks for the advice! I think that the stock Dodge keyless entry system in 98 was produced by TRW, or at least the remote was. I will try this route. Does anyone know how to contact TRW, or has anyone tried this?

Re: Keyless Entry (yep...another one)
I have a similar problem but my truck is 2001. I bought a couple of remotes for $20. They worked because I test them on my father's truck. I don't have the original, I have looked everywhere with no luck. I'm scared to go to the dealer, they wanted for over $100 for both remotes plus the programming charge, which I didn't bother to ask.

Hello All!
I have good news. I received the remote that I purchased over Ebay, and proceeded to call the local Dodge dealership to have it programmed. Expecting to pay between $50 and $80 to have it programmed, I was surprised and pleased to learn that they would rather just walk out to the truck and program it with the DRB on-the-spot rather than actually go to the trouble of setting up an appointment to do the same thing. The result? They did it for free! Yep...you heard right...a dealership actually did something for free, and did it very willingly, much to their credit. Remote works great! Now that I have one working remote, I think that there are instructions out there that will allow me to program a second one, using the first one to put the truck into keyfob programming mode. Take it easy, everyone! |

With my luck I don't thing that can happen to me but it is worth a try. If you have a working remote(which now you have) you can program the others. I sucessfully did it with my father's Ram.

Hey guys, sure could use some advice if you have it. This is a great forum and hoped one of you could help me? I bought a 2000 Ram 1500 a couple of months ago with only one keyless remote. Just got another remote off Ebay and figured "how hard could it be to program one of these?" I have been searching for hours with no success except to buy them. The original works fine. Can anyone out there help me with programming instructions? Thank you, Peter M North Providence, RI |
