Unhappy '93 Dakota - Lo oil press @ idle

Last snowfall I took my 13 yr old to a large parking lot to show her how a vehicle reacts to the slippery stuff. We accidently red-lined and the low oil pressure warning came on. It still comes on, but only at idle and only when the engine is warm.

You can try changing the oil to something thicker, but I think your oil pressure relief valve is stuck open a little. This valve opens when your oil pressure goes too high (it's ment to bypass the filter if it becomes too clogged for oil to flow through, so there will still be unfiltered oil circulation). When you red-lined it the pressure went too high, the valve opened and got stuck partially open.

Or you have a ton of miles on it and the pump is worn out, or you have a ton of miles on it and your brearing are worn out and can't maintain the correct pressure, or your low on oil, or you spun a bearing, or.........

What I'm trying to say is bring it somewhere to get it checked out. GL
