Cold Air intake

I own a '98 2x4 Taco. I am ready to purchase a cold air intake for it. What would be the best brand to go with that is also on the low end price wise. Also, how much horsepower will this add?

Re: Cold Air intake

Squeezie.

check out gadgetonline.com he talks about airbox modifications that work just as well as k&n (not knocking k&N) less $$$$$$$. its in the 4runner section. I tried it on my tacoma 2.7 and notice the difference. later

Take a look at this. I was just looking for a system myself. Good Luck!

That is a smokin' HOT AIR intake! you will actually lose power off the line with that thing. A true cold air system will take air in under the rad or out of the fender void. That open air system will help so long as there is adequate air movement over the motor.

Re: Cold Air intake

Would it work if I just re-ran the factory air line to somewhere outside the truck. Like under the bumper, hidden from view but so that it will still get air?

Re: Cold Air intake

Squeezie......
don't think too hard about this cold air induction.. the modified airbox vs the k&n is only a slight difference. the modified is just a cheaper way to go. running the air induction pipe outside or under this or through this is fine but there is such a thing as internal pipe friction(too many 90 degrees, 45 degrees, too long of a travel, etc. ) the basic hp increase is header, catback exhaust, cold air induction/ram air induction ,may be water injection, and computer chip if you can afford it. If you want real hp increase - engine rebuild, engine conversion, supercharger, and turbocharger. the bottom line is $$$$$$ and california emissions. have fun with your truck
