karting in portugal...well i had to didnt i

i went to portugal during the first week of this month. while i was there i couldnt pass up the oportunity to try out the only kart track in southern portugal (apparently). Now, of course i didnt have my normal kit for karting like my helmet and suit, but i did wear a t-shirt with my race number on it (96) . the first few shots are just setting the scene i suppose. most of the shots were taken on my first lap, so i was still exploring the grip and racing line. I was driving the twin engine (400cc) karts, but in order to stop drunken english idiots from killing them selves they limited the top speed. i ended up by the end of the session hitting the limiter pretty much as i exited the last corner and at various other places.

mmmmm, glare

more track

coming up to start first flying lap (on limiter)

oooo, a little wide

back in the rhythm

keep it nice and tight

damn limiter

late entry for maximum exit speed

my dad wasting film

That looks like a great facility. In a totaly diifferent league to the kart tracks in Australia.

well a number of f1 drivers supported its construction so i suppose it had to be good. i was quite pleased to be just under 1 second slower than the lap record . im sure i know where i could get some extra time from too.

However, compared to what i would call 'real' kart tracks here (england) the track just isn't up to that sort of standard. I certainly would not like to 'race' on that track because of the rough concrete on the exit of corners if you run wide.
