98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Idler pulley
Hi all, just stumbled across this forum, looking forward to learning more about my GTP.
My question is a simple one I think. My idler pulley has mysteriously vanished, leaving me with no belt on my super charger. Of course I am now wanting to fix it but have discovered that I might be able to increase my performance by getting a different sized pulley? First, can anyone give me a weblink to some pulleys online? Second, any suggestions on alternate pulleys to increase performance? Thanks in advance. pumcher |

Go to your GM dealer and get 2 more idler pulleys. Replace the missing one and with the ohter one replace the pulley on the tensioner also. The idler is alittle bigger then the tensioner, so by replacing the smaller pulley w/ the bigger one the belt will wrap around the supercharger pulley better and help eliminate belt slip.
I think they'll run ya bout $20 or so for the pulley ---------------------- For more boost check out some of the pulley systems from these vendors. http://tacgp.clubgp.com/vendors.html For a how to on MODs try http://tacgp.clubgp.com/custom_mods/index.html |

Re: 98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Idler pulley
Also you can check on http://www.zzperformance.com or http://www.pfyc.com for pulleys available. It is important that you check on the links provided for the GP clubs what they do to try to get away with the least KR possible. Learned from the players that if you install a to small pulley and the engine is not prepared for it to much kr will take power instead of giving you more. Bare that in mind

Hi pumcher, Your idler pulley did not disappear..it actually broke into a bunch of tiny pieces and fell off. You probably have a smooth nub left on it now. The pulley is made of plastic which should explain the mysterious vanishing... You will want to replace it with a Dayco metal pulley, not the oem GM plastic crap or it will crack and fall off in another 40k miles. You can buy it at Partsamerica.com Just enter the "your vehicle" information properly and look for the "supercharger idler pulley" by Dayco. Next up, you seem to be interested in a smaller supercharger pulley for your ride which is different. You will want to go with a 3.4 pulley to start off. Supporting mods that will be important are the u-bend removal in the factory exhaust system (right after the cat), and a 180 degree thermostat. A cold air intake will help to maximize hp gained by the pulley. You will gain 16whp with the pulley and over 30 lb ft of torque. I suggest you visit www.zzperformance.com (read the tech section before pulley upgrade) www.intense-racing.com www.clubgp.com |
