Electical mystery
Yesterday, I had the following done on my son's 96 Taurus:
New Battery...New Starter and a New Alternator. Now the radio stopped working and the speedometer/odometer does not function at all. What is the relationship between the work done and these problems? I can find NO fuse or relay that is common, in fact I can find NO fuse for the speedometer at all Any help???? |

On my '87 Taurus, the speedo is driven by a cable from the transaxle. Not aware if Ford changed this in any way, but I doubt they did. UNLESS you have the digital dash. Then it's a whole different story!
Who did the work? And does your car have the digital guages? (Did Ford even offer them as late as '96?) Poke around under the hood, see if you can spot any wiring harness connectors that look like they've been pulled apart and maybe not pushed back together, all the way. You might find other loose wires, too. |

Re: Electical mystery
Digital dash or not your speedo is electicaly driven by a speed sensor. I'm sure your problem is resolved by now, can you share the fix? I suspect either a connector problem as suggested or more common a bad ground..........
