01 Silverado book manual? 4wd enguagement?

Hello, my 01 silverado doesnt have a instruction book that just came with it used. Does anyone know of a place online that has a downloadable pdf format one or something similar???? How is the 4x4 enguaged or disenguaged? I have the buttons for on the fly 4wd and it has the z71 offroad package. I think you need to stop, put it in reverse and then back in drive to come out of 4x4 mode correct? First 4wd vehicle, other truck is a 91 ford f150 2wd, still in great condition but no 4wd. Thanks

Most of the 99-newer 4x4s that I rode in would just come out of 4 wheel drive by hitting the switch. I know some of my friends that race their Z71s launch out of the hole in fourwheel drive(traction) and knock it out after they take off. I think they finally fixed the problem of having to stop and back up with newer four wheel drives.

Well, I said Z71, but I was also including the base 4x4s owners. The Z owners use the auto, but some guys have a base model with the handle on the floor. Auto is a great thing to have, but some of them decided to go base model to cut cost(they were gonna change the rims, take off the molding, stereo upgrades, etc.) They could get these trucks super cheap this way, and with the money they saved, fix them up like they like.

Re: 01 Silverado book manual? 4wd enguagement?

I bought a truck with the manual floor shifter. Just one less thing to break. But I do know how your Push Button works. If you are under 45 MPH, you can press the 4 Hi Button. and Back to 2 Hi. I have found if you do this while you are coasting, then tap the gas, it disengages the 4x4 immediatly. The only time you have to stop and put it in nuetral is for going in and out of 4 Lo. but no need to put the truck in reverse. Just a tap of the gas is snough to release the transfer case.

a little of the subject of the forum, sorry. but you have buddies that are running 4x4's do you know what their times are and what they have done. becuase i haven't seen to many people with 4x4 that go for speed, so im not sure how fast they can get them. i seen the site you sent me of the guy that ran a 11.9. wow, that has totaly got me back into wanting to do stuff to my truck and pushed me away from the 4-wheeler.

Most of the 4x4 guys with all the main boltons go low 14s and some high 13s. The 11.9 Z71 dropped in a 6.0L, whipple supercharger, yank stall, 100 shot of nitrous, and some badass tuning. The diesel guys are really impressing me. About $600-800 in mods and they're easily in the high 13s. Your truck is a 2000, so you already have an advantage over the 99 Z71s. I would say that high 13s could be easily achieveable with all the boltons and a good custom tune. That's really rolling for an extended cab 4x4. I'm gunning for a low to mid 13 with my little 4.8L. Can't wait to see what i can do when I hit the track with the stall/shift kit and some good drag radials.
4x4s are no longer just used for the mud and towing. These bad boys are getting out on the track and showing some smaller cars and trucks what it's all about. Then they finish the night up with a little mud riding.

Most of the low 14, high 13 runs are with basically the same mods as you. The only difference is most of them are running a custom tune instead of a over the counter programmer. They also have the tailgate off, spare tire out, and the front passenger headlight out. We all run with the headlight out. It's easy to take in and out, and it feeds the open air filter with a good bit more air.Weight reduction helps out a ton in these trucks. Have you ever been to the track? I would say with your mods, you should be in the mid to low 14s. .

Absolutely, I'll almost guarantee that you will think this is the best money you have spent on performance so far. I have never heard of someone not getting a huge seat of the pants gain from a custom tune. It is definately worth every penny. I see you have the Hypertech. You could do like I'm gonna do and reprogram your computer back to stock, sell your previous programmer, and use that money to help pay for the custom tune. Nelson will always upgrade the tune for any mods you do for free. You just can't beat the performance of a custom tune over a handheld unit. It's just not comparable.

i have never been to the track before. but i plan on going this spring. i have been waiting for my friends to get their 97 gtp and 03 eclipse done up a little. both are supose to run around 15 stock. and the gtp kills me off the line. but if you are saying that i should be running low 14's with a custom tune i am going to get it in the spring along with a shift kit and servo. my buddies with their car will shit when i come blowing by them. so then i might start spending more money on my truck. that will be after my buddy gets his P.O.R.N. business going (Performance Off-Road Necessities. he said that he will give a great deal on stuff. oh and how does that guy that runs a 11.92 launch off the line so fast? is it because if his stall? ow and i was wondering what he runs 0-60 in? thanks Lance

Yeah, his launches are due to the stall, auto 4x4, and a nice 100 shot out of the hole. His 60ft was a 1.694 His 8th was a 7.524, and his 1/4 was an [email protected]. He had some serious money in this truck, but that thing would just all out haul. He sold this truck and now has a brand new single cab 4x4 that he has already put a 6.0L, 4L80E tranny, and a 100 shot of nitrous. Can't wait to see what kind of numbers he puts down with this monster. You should be able to blow those guys off the road when you get that custom tune and if you get the tranny work done you will really kill them. Good luck.

i was looking at this site http://www.kdsperformance.com/supser700r44.html and they have a servo that has 35% more surface then the corvette servo. do you think i should upgrade the servo to that. because i plan on eliminating some of my torque management with the nelson tuning. or do you think the corvette servo plus the shift kit would do fine.
