Installed the Thrasher CAI
Guys, check how my engine bay looks with the Thrasher CAI installed.
![]() Have not got the chance to "test" it but sounds really beautifull. It is funny on the street lights, the imports have a real potent sound but the GP with the CAI installed when reved up sounds really mean, powerfull. The kids on my block really had to turn their heads today when I reved up the engine after installing the CAI and looks awesome with the transparent cover. Sounds awesome. |

Re: Installed the Thrasher CAI
Ecko is correct about the engine bay, the temperature drop is not that great, and with this setup what I am getting is a heck of a lot more air CFM's into the plenum, but, check this site out http://www.zzperformance.com/zzp/inf...ns_airflow.htm. There you can see that what the cheetah and similar products would do to your intake, basically after reading the article even thought tubes that would put the cone outside the engine bay will get you cooler air, the turbulence is so great that what you gain in cooler air you loose it with the intake added effort to get the air into the combustion chamber. I have seen wind tunnels and the turbulence effect is really a restraining factor, that is why I decided on the thrasher, the air path is a lot shorter to the Intake Plenum and since I live in the Caribbean the air by definition is denser down here because of the sea level closeness. I have a thrasher 3.4” installed and with the CAI I hope to get around ~12hp. But I have not been able to certify that either at the dyno or the on the road, I just finished installing yesterday afternoon and was really easy no cutting really just opening a little more the screw hole on the PCM relocation holder. Also you can say it is a lowering weight kit
because most of the hookups are based on Velcro tapes just one screw from the original setup was used. I hope to get better gains with it since I have a modified PCM(ECU) as well. The car with a panel K&N and original air box was around ~295hp at the dyno so it could get around the ~300hp now. But I have not been able to certify that. I will post on my gallery pictures for the car after I just blew engine and tranny and the process to put it together. I got someone that moded the 2 and the PCM to get me close to the ~300hp and the dyno pull after 5 hits was ~295hp, cool was around ~280hp. |

Re: Installed the Thrasher CAI
Jeffs GTP site http://www.easyperformance.com has the WizAired CAI and is basically the same setup as the thrasher, but the thrasher(Please bear with me on this one and try to be objective as I am trying
)has better looks and is lighter. What I read of the WizAired is that instead of bolting the ECU(PCM) to the car they strap it so in that sense is better than the thrasher but the thrasher looks awesome it matches with the OEM accents under the hood.

Re: Installed the Thrasher CAI
WOW the http://www.easyperformance.com site is heavy. They explain basically the same thing as the http://www.zzperformance.com/zzp/in...gns_airflow.htm but with Physics equations. That is really heavy. You should read the tech section where the talk about Induction Systems. They explain what the filter, bends on the intake and related hardware would do to your engine. It is awesome

Re: Installed the Thrasher CAI
titleist312, I forgot to mention that I had to use an old oil quart as the radiator return bottle since I was not able to find quicly the 99 and up required. The thrasher CAI ocuppies part of the space used for the stock return bottle on the 98's. But the old oil quarter bottle works fine until I find the 99 one that is supposed to be hooked on the right strut tower.

A stock GTP (240 crank hp) will pull 195-200 hp at the wheels With a 3.4 - intake-exhaust I put down 230fwhp With mods in my sig I put down 291 fwhp |

Re: Installed the Thrasher CAI
Ripn12s, I need to double check on those. I am adding stuff in top of what I asked for remember.
But you are correct, I have to double check the numbers. |
