Porsche's 911 GT3 vs. 911 GT2

Which of these 2 cars is your favorite

personally, i like the GT2 because it it faster and it has more of a gutsy intemidating look to it. it is .5 seconds faster than the GT3 and it does the 1/4 mile in only 12 seconds.

The GT2 is $100,000 more than the GT3, but it is the ultimate porsche, next to the carrera gt

Re: Porsche's 911 GT3 vs. 911 GT2

yes, the gt2 is faster, but the gt3 is more of a track car. i hope the gt2 is faster with two turbos versus the gt3 as a N/A. it would be a very hard choice, but i would choose the gt2. just cuz of the performance advatage and imo i think the gt2 looks better.

This really is not a very fair comparison...two different cars...TT and NA. I'd take the GT3 just b/c it would be more reliable and w/380HP...you still wax plenty of ppl. Sure the 462HP on the GT2 is nice...but at that price...I dont know anymore...

I'll take a GT3!

in their current respective forms i belive the GT3 would be a more pure and involving experience

however on a track the GT2 should dominate easily

Re: Porsche's 911 GT3 vs. 911 GT2

I wont even respond to the 1/4 mile 'argument'. Anyone who rates these cars on that basis is a fool, there's no two ways about it.

The truth is, yes, the GT2 is faster in a straight line. With an extra hundred horsies and all that torque it damn well should be. It may even be faster on a track, even if it isnt doesnt corner as sharply and predictably as the GT3. The fact is that the GT2 is heavier and 'softer' than the GT3, it's a GT. Only one of these is a great car, and it aint the GT2.

The Jan issue of GT - Purely Porsche pits a GT2 against a GT3, the GT3's victory is overwhelming. I highly suggest you pick up a copy.

Well, he didn't ask for reasoning...

But sure, my main reasoning is that it is much more rare, more modifiable, and faster. To me this outweighs the loss of braking and handling performance.

definitely the gt3-- even though it has less hp, the performance is comparable to the gt2, and if you wanted to, you could turbo the gt3 for a lot lot less than a $100g and get similar, if not more performance than a gt2

I'm assuming that we're talking what our preferences are for track use. In that case, GT3. IMO, the GT2 is a one-upped Turbo, the Turbo its self being more of a grand tourer. The GT3 is a no mistake track demon. Also, Mr. Payne, if you wanted to modify the cars, I would go with the GT3, after all it has heritage as an LM racer.

to what moslerporschefreak said, the gt3 would probably be easier to modify. i.e. porsche gt3 cup car and rs.

Last time I checked, a GT3 hadn't set the record for the fastest street car to go on the Ring......that was the Gemballa GT2 (which has since lost the record).

They're everywhere.

HOw many GT2 race cars??? Not nearly as many.

I'm actualy glad that porsche went from turbo to n/a on the GT3. Also the half cost price tag makes it even more appealing. Its better feel over the GT2 doesn't really mean much to me considering that both are very very rear biased in weight. If you try and tuck the front in on any high speed corner to much, reguardless which car, that back end is going to want to go where the front end should be. I just love the sound of high reving n/a, and I think the GT3's 8200rpm redline qualifies for that. Give me the GT3.

When was the GT3 turbo? I thought that was the distinction between the classes when they used to use GT1, GT2, and GT3 in the Le Mans series races...the GT3 cars were NA...the GT2 Porsches were turbo...and obviously so were the GT1's...
