knock sensor

hi
i need a knock sensor, is it anything to worry about? The engine light is not on but i think its been reset before the car was sold to me. The car passed inspection but the computer picked up that the knock sensor was not good. thanks

Re: knock sensor

Generally, the ecm watches the knock sensor to help control engine timing. You may be losing some gas mileage or getting spark knock. When you post, include the year, make, model and engine size and you will get better answers.

Re: knock sensor

The knock sensor will not throw a code by itself. You should see if it is stored in your ECU.

Knock sensor codes can come up by itself. Mine did. I replaced it and helped significantly on performance. After about 5 years if you feel a loss in performance and the knock sensor code is up you should replace it.

Here is a link with more detailed info on the Maxima knock sensor :

Re: knock sensor

Well, as far as I know...the knock sensor won't set off the CEL. It will have a code but the light won't go on.

This is exactly the way it happened to me. The Check Engine Lighht didn't turn on, but the code came up on the scanning the dealer made.
