I have a 1998 GTX VR6 Jetta complete with an on board computer. The readout usually supply info about the outside temperature, oil temperature, gas mileage and so on. These displays are now blank and the fuel gauge no longer works. All the fuses are OK. Any Ideas? I am very concerned because I am not sure if the temp or oil pressure lights are working either.

Re: Fuel Gauge and on board computer read outs not working
Unfortunately it sounds like a bad display unit control module if temp guage, tachometer & speedometer work. Brake, oil and coolant lights should come on for a second when first turning on ignition. Power to the instrument cluster comes from fuse 21 & 11 (lights). My only suggestion would be to disconnect the battery for a few seconds to reset the MFA computer. Be sure you have the radio reset code first.

Great Advise! That worked! Now, the windows stopped working.

Re: Fuel Gauge and on board computer read outs not working
Did they stop working when you disconnected the battery or was it seperate? If it's just the automatic functions that quit working due to disconnecting the battery then follow these instructions:
1) Close all windows & doors. 2) Using key, lock vehicle from either driver's or passenger's door. Hold key in lock position for at least one second. That should reactivate the automatic functions. |
