bosch 02 sensor vs ngk

I just replaced my oem ntk 02 sensor with a bosch sensor. same oem connection. the problem is that I got the infamous 01 error code as soon as I put on the new sensor, I never had that code before so it is not an issue of clearing the codes, the connection was good, screwed on good but still could not understand what the problem was. I put my old ntk sensor back on an there was no code. Has anyone else had a problem with putting on crappy bosch sensors, the only thing I can think of is that the sensor itself is longer in on the ngk than the bosch so it fits better in the exhaust stream.
