Making of: Alpine Renault A442B Turbo (* Progress Pics *)
This was definitively not in my list of cars to build.
![]() I went to my local shop (60Km away) to buy the Williams FW24 but there wasn’t a single one in stock. Since I can’t leave a model shop without buying a model I started to find an alternative and found this one. After all it was a great buy. First it is a Alpine, second it's a Le Mans winner, and finally the shape of the car is unusual. This model will be the winner of the 1978 Le Mans race painted with Yellow (TS-16) and Pure White (TS-26). The body is sanded, gaps cover with putty and it’s ready for is first primer coat. More updates to come. |

Hey Nuno! That's a very cool project! I like the shape of that car a lot.
Listen, where do you buy your kits? You said it's 60 Km from you...Here in Aveiro I have 2 LHS. Hobbybrinca and DrogariaCentral. I'd be happy to check if they have the Williams FW24 for you. |

Re: Making of: Alpine Renault A442B Turbo (* Progress Pics *)
Time for a new update.
![]() Body is primed and masked so the white parts can be painted. The chassis is also painted in semi-gloss black and apart from five our six pieces the engine is already in the chassis part. Let’s see how it will look after painted. Quote:
I manage to find one a few weeks later. Aveiro is a really nice place. I have many family and friends there and I sometimes go to visit them. Maybe one day we can meet and have a coffee in the Forum Shopping. Quote:

HI portoguese guys;
only a question not about models. What the hell happened to Fehér? I only heard he died at the end of a soccer match... I love your football (here in my city, Florence (Italy) the echo of Rui Costa is still sounding, less the one of Nuno Gomes i must admitt). |

Re: Making of: Alpine Renault A442B Turbo (* Progress Pics *)
He'd just seen a yellow card, was smiling and all of a sudden he bends on his knees and falls on his back, no reaction whatsoever...He had a heart attack...and died right there...What a shame! I really liked the way he played. I'm a Porto fan, but I still sorry for his death.
God bless him. |

Finished the body paint process.
![]() After de white parts were painted they were protected with Maskol. I then applied the final three TS-16 coats and it is ready for painting the panel lines and decals. Engine is also painted. Since this is basically a single piece painted in a single colour nothing like the good old F-19 wash to make it gain some life. More updates to come. |

Re: Making of: Alpine Renault A442B Turbo (* Progress Pics *)
Hei Nuno, tell me more about Maskol. Is it like Revell's liquid mask? How does it work? I can't find liquid mask anywhere in Aveiro....
BTW, great looking Renault, hope to see it finished soon. |

Re: Making of: Alpine Renault A442B Turbo (* Progress Pics *)
Wow, missed this thread up till now, very interesting subject. You are already well on the way to achieving another beautiful build Nuno! Looks to be some very detailed moulding on the underside engine detail - very impressive considering how old the kit must be. Or maybe it is your fine painting skills flattering to decieve?
I will have to be more observant and keep track of the updates on this beauty! |

Time for some update on this Le Mans winner.
![]() The most problematic decals are applied. Especially the black ones (big and with some air entrances) and the white ones near the front light require some dedication. Next step is the rest if the decals and the construction of the cockpit. |
