More horsepower!
I was wondering what all I can do to my D16Z6 for more horsepower....
I just ordered intake, header, and catback exhaust from a local shop...After I do all that, I'm planning to install a new intake manifold... All this will give me at least 25 extra hp right? What else can I do for more horsepower besides a swap or FI? I plan to swap in a B16/18 later on and maybe go turbo...but thats in a couple years...

Re: More horsepower!
you could go with some lightweight pulleys. replace them all except for the pulley for the alternator. I also think that one of the best mods for a VTEC motor is to get it a more aggresive cam. You don't want to get one that is too aggressive cause you'll need to do some major head work then. But I think Skunk2 manufactures a streetable cam that requires little head work if any if i'm thinking right.

Re: More horsepower!
You'll be lucky to gain 20HP max at the wheels with I/H/E/IM under perfect conditions. If it were my car, I'd start by doing head work.
IMO, if your planning on a swap, stop throwing money @ your current engine & start saving for the new engine. Invest money into suspension since it's one mod that actually does something for the money. http://www.mmrusa.com/gudehead.htm http://www.importreview.com/performance.html |

Re: More horsepower!
You wont be getting 15 WHP from those mods on a d-series no way in hell...from your mods youll probably get 8-10 WHP around 13-15 horspower at the crank, what they announce. So if you have 125 hp now youll be around 133.

Re: More horsepower!
I'm planning on a swap that's why I was wondering if there was anything else I could do to increase hp without actually messing with the block itself...
The I/H/E/IM that I put on my D16 would fit a B16 wouldnt it? Thanks anyway...

Re: More horsepower!
So even though the people selling them say they will increase x amount of hp...it wont?
Like the IM i was looking at said 10-15 hp gain...and the others were like 5-7....

Re: More horsepower!
So do you all reccomend swapping in a B16...or just getting some head work?
According to that MMR site...the headwork will help more than a swap....for less money. What should I do?

Re: More horsepower!
yah, nothing that fits on a D-series motor will fit on a B-series motor that I know of. If you were looking to swap parts, I suggest you send the parts you bought already back and start saving.

Some intakes might fit a B series manifold. No header from a D series will fit a B series. Exhaust--muffler and piping no problem, as they'll fit. Internals--no go for cams. B and D series cams are different.

Well, if you are planning to fully build the d and not swap, then the head package makes sense. If you still intend to swap later, then save your money and put it towrds the swap.

Re: More horsepower!
You see, it's sad when you 'trick your ride out' and you're pushin' 125hp at the wheels..ya' know? It should be some sort of crime...but anyway I agree with the guy who said SAVE YOUR MONEY and quit throwing it into a D series engine! I mean come on now you're going to be competing with Kias and Suzukis on the track with that little bit of HP.

Re: More horsepower!
Yeah, the way I said it was kind of looking down on the D-series..but it's true you can get power out of them..but I had in mind that he wanted the swap so it's kind of dumb to put money into what you got if you're plaining on ditching that engine anyway.
