Make sure to have the ignition switch updated if not taken care of already - it's also a FREE recall.

Ooopss, after looking over the letter again, it does say...[ignition switch interlock] and not [safety switch inter lock]. Sorry if i confused anyone..
I guess the [ignition switch interlock] and [ignition switch] are the same???

I got a little confused when I saw "SAFETY SWITCH INTERLOCK", I thought there was a new recall, but we're both talking about the same thing. Does it say on the letter, 02-031?

i don't see 02-031, but it must be the same recall.
My letter header says..
SAFETY RECALL: IGNITION SWITCH INTERLOCK
and again for anyone that is just tuning in, this is for 98/99 accords and odysseys with automatic transmission.

It's the same thing . . . .If there is an aftermarket alarm or remote starter then the recall is not free, the dealer will charge 1.0hr of labor for disconnecting & reconnecting the wiring. It's stupid, but that's the way it works.

While your car is at the dealer have them run a VIN status report, this will show any uncompleted recalls & they should be able to take care of them at the same time.

www.alldata.com list all recalls & service bulletins - only recalls are "free"

Those buttheads are always out to suck blood. Honda dealers have go to be one of the worst when it comes to consumers and remote starters. I mean, do you think they could actually disconnect the wiring and hook it all back up in an hour???? I highly doubt it. When they see a remote start, they usually start to cry to their mommies Trust me that they don't even have to remove the remote start inorder to do this repair. Well, at least my installs don't. I do my wiring well underneath the dash far away from where they need to be. It should be much cheaper to have an alarm shop do it for you if you think it is neccessary though.

I am under warranty and the dealer in Pensacola has been fantastic and most courteous..they also have a shuttle to drop me off at work and pick me up during regular hours...

I agree, the techs where I worked would bitch like little babies if there was an aftermarket alarm or remote starter. I do understand where they are coming from because I used to be a tech & warranty repair/recall doesn't pay much compared to a normal customer job. Like the 30K maint/ service. 4.0hrs of labor & they would have it done in less than 2hrs. It's nice getting paid for 4hr when you did 2hrs worth of work. Some of those tech were booking 80+hrs per week. The dealer was one of the busiest in IL, 6am-midnight M-F 8am-12pm Sat. so there was always too much work waiting out in the lot.

Hi there... The recall is actually to check if the key comes out of the ignition switch when it isn't supposed to...

It's not the same recall. The 02-031 is the electrical portion of the igniton switch, the 03-088 is the mechanical portion of the ignition switch. Two totally different recalls...mike

Once more..My recall was Ignition Switch Interlock.
And when i look at my receipt for the repair it reads..Performed Shift Interlock Update 03-088A
Please don't ask me if it is the same as 03-088
