Fuel pump ?'s

2000 model Safari the pump is starting to get louder and my gauge is on full at all times. I've read that the pump and sending unit is sold as 1 piece, is this correct? Should I get it at the dealer or a parts store and what is the approximate cost? Is the replacement pretty straightforward or are thre any surprises waiting for me? A friend had his done at a shop for about $700 a 97 model. I think I can do this myself, but i would like some pointers before I start, It's my work van so I can't have it drag out too long. Thanks!

Re: Fuel pump ?'s

The sender and pump are separate. If the gauge reads full, you may have a problem with the connections to the sender. Pointer, it is possible for the filter clogging up to causethe noise. If it is trying to pump against the restriction, it will be noisier. Ray

Re: Fuel pump ?'s

Mine was about $100 dollars for the pump. It's in the gas tank. I paid a dealer mechanic to fix mine on the side. Another $100. I had just filled it up and had no way to get the fuel out of it, let alone a containeer to store it in safely.

Re: Fuel pump ?'s

I replaced my fuel pump a few months ago. It is pretty straight foward. Nothing tricky. Did it in my driveway in a couple of hours. I say go for it.

Just make sure you get the correct pump.

Re: Fuel pump ?'s

i ve had to replace my fuel pump twice on two different vans...i had the garage do it...only advice i can add is make sure the garage can bend up the fuel lines themselves cuz factory ones costed 2x more if they need replacing. one shop didnt and it cost me 4oo cdn for the parts only...Sears made and installed for just over half. its -10 and had tons of snow so i couldnt even try dropping the tank. ps the pump job cost me 500 cdn.
