Check this out...

Just got a 94 civic coupe. JDM GSR motor. Seems slow going threw the gears. VTEC dosnt hit so hard like i think it should. Replaced the fuel filter on it and its beter but still slow. Any ideas on were i should start? New to hondas....... Stamped BA18c, P72 on head, Looks like OBD1, p28 stock gsr ECU i think, Also are the VTEC sylonoids differnt from type r to mine or same? I understand so for i have the right bottom end. And i have a LSD Hydrolic tranny. What things should i change and check to get the power back before i add the goodies.. Head, Throttle body, Intake manifold...etc??
thanks
jeff

is this a chipped p28? if not then you will have to either get the p28 chipped to run the gsr program or you will have to get the correct ecu which is a p72.

ok ill check that screen. I rev way past 7400rpms. The stock JDM sir-g's rev limiter is set @ 8200 or so. I shift @ 7600 rpms just untill i find out were to shift @. No P28. Its a P72. Stock i think. Ill open it up to see if it is chiped. I highly doubt it. The previous owner sold the P28 that was on it and put on a P72. Is it real easy to check the vtec slyonoid screen? How to do it? Ill see what i can take apart.... Revs real slow and i know i have 180 horse not even including the Gready evo exhaust. I think it is one of these: Cat cloged, Injectores cloged, ECU not right, Thottle body dirty, Intake dirty>??? onther thing is sometimes when im @ 4000 rpms on freeway in 5th the cars seems to hit a govenor and engine turns back on @ 3500rpm same rpms every time when it duz it some times during long periods... MAybe VETC sylonoid.. Ill check..
My syloniod looks smaller then type R?
thanks again

Re: Check this out...

if your cat was cloged then your car would smoke a little bit and you would smell it....check your timing you may be way retarted if it starts pulling in the high rpms but not down low it could be your timing..i know on a b16 best all motor time is 17 im not sure on a gsr....on the vtec screen theres like 2 or 3 bolts that hold the silinoid on that those off and look at the screen on the inside....its very east takes less tehn 10 min...and last do a compression check if that shows up fine then you know its prob something little....

Ok i figured some things out that msot people never thought of. Check the engine code light that determinds the problems. Mine is reading spedo not working and intake manifold sensor not working. POW! There is my answer. For the rest of you thanks but we forgot to look at the start. Honda has an ECU that tells you almost all the answers to problems we have... And its easy to check...
