1991 Jeep Cherokee Questions

Hi, i've got a 1991 Jeep Cherokee 4WD 2-door Sport edition and i've got a fews questions

What's the "Power Trans" button to the right of the driving wheel? what does it do? I lost the manual...so don't really know what to use it for.

Also, when i try to start the jeep...it takes a while to get it going..what's wrong? Gas line pipe freeze?

thanks!

The Power button just reprograms the transmission shift points a little but so it will rev a bit higher before shifting up and will kick down a bit more easily. Its basically a bit of a gimmick, not too important.

As far as for starting. How long must you crank it before it will start?

It could be your fuel line loses pressue when its not being driven, or the pressure is low. This could be the fuel pump or the pressure regulator.
Try turning on the ignition and letting the fuel pump build pressure for 10 seconds or so before cranking and see if that helps.

it takes at least 3-5 seconds before it starts..no matter if i used the car back in 5min ago..or 1hour ago..it's always the same...

all i hear is the battery...then the gas kicks in later...I know it's not the battery problem, since I recently bought a new one...

also, another question:

what does the 3 and 1-2 mean ?? what's the main purpose for them?
thanks!

The Power Trans switch is also useful if you are towing with your XJ. If you put it in power mode, it won't keep shifting in and out of overdrive at highway speeds while towing.

I keep my '91 in powermode 24/7, the tranny is much more responsive and that makes the jeep more fun to drive.

1-2 means 1st and 2nd. The tranny will not shift into 2nd until about 4750-5000rpm(powermode) regardless of throttle position and will not shift into 3rd or engage OD.

3 means youll have all 3 forward gears without any OD engament.
