major fuel gauge problems

my fuel gauge is very eratic in my 99 2.2l. it randomly goes from full to empty, and rarely (when not setting on empty) drops bellow the full mark. it will do this even after filling up. it also sets somewhere just under a quarter when the key is turned to acc.

Re: major fuel gauge problems

probably a bad ground, it can be either in the dash or at the sender...i would check the sender unit where the wires attach, unplug them and give them a good cleaning. hope that helped.

Re: major fuel gauge problems

the sending unit is what sends the info to your gauge, it is located inside your fuel tank....but it goes in through the top, so you can access it without taking the tank down (it's kinda tight but do-able) if you follow the fuel lines up to the top of the tank, that's the sender unit. look for the wires that attach to it and that's what i'm talking about. good luck.

Re: major fuel gauge problems

alot of the older s10's and blazer's have the same problem your problem would be your fuel gauge sending unit. it is not all that hard to do unless you have alot of rust on your lines
