electric choke problems!!!!

The choke on my 85 Scrambler (with the dreaded Carter BBD) does not seem to be working properly. It will close and richen like it should on cold start but instead of gradually opening up and leaning as the engine warms, it immeadiately opens. I mean right away - I can tap the accel. 2 seconds after start up and the choke goes to wide open. I have tried to adjust it, but even when set to far rich it still does it. Also, how "open" is the choke suppose to be when warm? It never really seems to be completely open even when warm. I am guessing that the plate should be perpendicular or close to when warm? Any ideas, PLEASE??????????
Thank You!
