free timing chain/gear set for 3.8 Camaro
I pulled a blown up 3.8 from a '99 Camaro and did an LS1 swap. I have a timing chain and gear set that is almost new. It was put in just before the self destruction. Oh yeah, there is a set of stock lifters too.
Send me a p.m. The only fee will be for shipping. ---TEX--- |

HEY BROS!!
What you 2 been up to? By the looks of things, you dudes have been busy posting and jabberin. As for me, I've been bustin butt producing work and trying to find time to work on my 69 Camaro. I finally got the distributors in synch and the Muncie bolted up. Trying to find time for the body work. Like the old Johnny Cash song "a piece at a time". You don't have any rear quarters laying around, huh? Psi: The gears are steel. I think the balancer gear is in the box too. ---TEX--- |

I came across the scoop on your accident, my condolences.
A friend of mine fish tailed his Lingenfelter IROC under a semi. It crushed the whole nose of the car which had a new BeCool radiator and a set of A.F.R. heads. As far as I know the car is still sitting. ---TEX--- |

Re: free timing chain/gear set for 3.8 Camaro
Hey Tex, what's going on brother. Glad to see your back. Remember me? 400+hp 305TBI Well she died about two weeks ago or so. So the 383 I've been building up is sitting in her right now. A little more beastly..LOL So now my project is to put as much hp out of that 305 as I possibly can with out spraying it or blowing it.....should be interesting.

Re: free timing chain/gear set for 3.8 Camaro
I kind of feel like I abandoned my family and went to mingle w/the neighbors. This is a good group of respectable peeps, w/all the trash bashers out there, a good crew is hard to find. W/my 69 Camaro project, I got tied up at pro-touring.com but have never forgotten my 1st home. They too are a good group, a little narrow focused, but a good group indeed.
Hey Vlad, sounds like a tough decision. Both have their good and bad points. I have heard of the opti-spark crapping out but have never had to replace one. I did have a Firebird come in that lunched a rotor, the rotor shaft spun in the hub and the thing was out of time. I had to press the hub off and retime the thing. I added a few extra degrees and it seem to run a lot better (so he said). Here's something to think about. What if you got the LT1 and installed an Edelbrock (carbureted) intake and ran a regular distributor in the back, install the injectors in the intake runners and adapt the throttle body to where the carb should go. You'll have an LT1 (sort of) w/the reliability of a TPI. With that combo you can use the TPI ecm and harness, which is way cleaner than the LT1. I have a sb400 that I plan to eventually install into my C-4 (TPI). I think a modified Victor Jr. would work good. It'll flow more than the upgraded tubular runners, that's for sure. 92RS, you must have wound the 305 up pretty tight to hurt that thing. The 383 sounds like a good upgrade. Like to see what the modded 305 cranks out though. Keep up the updates. Hope it works out. I got my Camaro engine completed a few months ago. I finally hooked up a cooling system so I could run it on the stand. The jetting and idle circuts are lean, hope to have it squirting more fuel tomorrow so I can hear it sing a better song. Be cool dudes, ---TEX--- |

Re: free timing chain/gear set for 3.8 Camaro
Tex.
WOW bro thats something I've never ever thought of but the truth is I'm new to all this TPI and stuff just so I'm still pretty cautious about where to go with it. Been looking for books here not much luck. So if you do this bro on another gimme a blow by blow if ya would.

Re: free timing chain/gear set for 3.8 Camaro
tex that post right there is why we need you around, that is possibly the best idea i have heard on the LT1 delemma. a little complicated for someone who hasnt done it before, but a friggin ingenous plan. im very impressed. as for abandoing us, i guess your forgiven, i doubt many of us would be able to help ya out with the pro-touring aspect of the 69 project, happy to hear its coming along. you should post some pics of that thing running on the stand with a shit eating grin on your face
but i will argue your point on the victor junior flowing more than modified tubular runners. (you know me, always gotta start something) they will only flow what the throttle body lets in, so thats the cork anyway, but even so, the only difference will be where the peak power is made. with the long TPI runners, its down low, with the Victor junior, its gonna be a top end spinner. thats how i see it anyway.

Thanks for the kind words IROC. That's why I like it here, people actually give respect to people that earn it (I try). I guess I look at an engine for what it is and try to find simple solutions without a narrow focus. LT1,TPI,TBI,Vortec,carbureted,blown,etc..., if parts can be mixed and matched to make a good combo, why not try. I have experimented countless times and have had good results (live and learn).
You're right about the difference between the Victor Jr. and the tubular runners. I have driven some Camaros that pulled really strong and then seemed to die off around 5Ks. My C-4 has SLP runners (and an air foil)and it pulls like mad all the way up to the shift point. I'm sure that w/the addition of a larger throttle plate, that TPI unit would be right at home on top of the 406. It is all in how the system is put together if it will restrict it down or not. A lot of times, bigger isn't better. I guess the point I was trying to make was the ease of servicability. Look how long it takes to break down a TPI compared to how easy your TBI is to tweek on. All of my 400s have had Victor J.s and Holley 850dp. carbs. With the bigger cubes you still have the low rpm torque and the double pumper is wide open when stomped to the floor. I wouild gecommend a dual plane manifold for a 350 to help boost the torque, I just stated what combo I would use. If it was a drag car then the 350 could get away w/the Victor. It all depends on how the car will be driven (but you already know that). Here's a good one for you. The 69 Camaro I am building will have a V-12 Bimmer engine (if you read my 2nd post, I said I got the "distributors" in sync). I fabbed my own tunnel-ram intake that will have tripple Weber carburetors on top. The runners are 1 3/4" tubes that cross from side-to-side to help the torque curve, if I was to guess, I'd say they are slightly longer than TPI runners. The distributors are modified 6cyl. Chevy HEI units. No electronics on this puppy. My Biscayne has the mobile pc in the dash. As for my projects, I try to concentrate on something unique. If there are 500 Camaros at the Chevy meet, I want the one that stands out by looks and sound. You make any progress on the body repairs? Hope it works out. Later man. ---TEX--- I just thought of something. Go to http://bartonekdragracing.com Click on "cool rides" to the left of the opening page. My projects are under "blown Biscayne" and "Camaro V-12". The pics are jumbled in no order but the engine pic #5 is the best one. There's a couple of vids too. |
