Greetings all,
My first post here... I've got a 1998 528i with a dead radio, it just up and quit. It was intermittent for a couple of weeks, it would just go on and off in a random manner, and it finally just quit working all together. So far I have checked all the fuses that I could find related to the radio and CD changer and all were good. The CD changer still has power, the eject and load function works just fine, the clock on the display comes up just fine and will allow me to change the time, but no other radio functions are available, I can't even get it to go to the code function. Any ideas from anyone as to what could be wrong? Are there any aftermarket units? Any help or suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance! Kurt. [email protected] |

Hi! I don't actually have any suggestions or knowledge. I'm just posting to make sure that this system actually works.
So far, it looks like you post a question, and then people pretend you're dead for a couple of years. I'm starting to suspect that most BMW owners are either totally ignorant, which keeps them from offering useful information, or just don't care. There are probably some of them that just pay someone else to make their problems go away. The rest of us who are poverty-stricken with high tastes in cars will just have to help each other. Sorry I don't have anything more productive to add to your thread. When I take my dash apart to fix my heater controls, I'll see if I can figure something out about the radio! It is Soooooo easy!
Ok, I took the console out that houses the climate controls and the CD player. It was really easy. There's 5 or so screws and one or two bolts, and the whole shittorea comes out.
I got my heater controls working again. The place where the slider arms mount to the console had ripped out, and I got them anchored again using some very classy cable ties...black, of course. I checked the fuse in the CD player, and it was good. I hooked everything back up, and still nothing. It'll take you about 3 minutes with a phillips screw driver and a 9mm socket to get the whole console loose so you have access to your heater controls and stereo. Don't be afraid. Take it apart and look at it as a first step. I let you know more once I check all of my electrical connections and get the stereo checked out, just in case that's the problem. Dive in there! It's easy! Flunky PS-My car's a 1985 535i...so there may be some differences, you have a much newer car, so lookout! (Dive in there anyway...you know you want to...) |
