2000 Pathfinder Fault Codes

I have a check engine light on & need to know how to get the fault code from the computer, is there an easy way without going 100mi to a dealer or spending $ ???? THANX, Terry

If you are outside of California you can go to any local Autozone and they'll read the codes for free. Post back when you get the codes.

Lewis: Sorry, Puerto Rico is an island 100mi x 35mi, we're so far outside of California the people here don't know what an Autozone is. But THANX for replying.

Sorry, didn't check your profile. Very familiar with Puerto Rico since I did some work in Mayaguez.

Anyway, you may be in luck. The 2000 model year was the last year that had a diagnostic mode selector on top of the PCM. You can turn this all the way clockwise for 2-3 seconds, then turn it all the way back and it will flash the codes out on the dash in long and short flashes. The Haynes manual has a cross reference between these codes and the actual Nissan P codes. You can repeat to clear the codes.

Now the bad news, the PCM is tucked under the dash above the gas pedal and the diagnostic mode selector is on top. I used a small inspection mirror to find it and then had to practice for a while before I got the hang of it. You have to lie on your back on the floor and reach up to get to it. Also if yours is like mine it will be covered in clear tape that needs to be scraped away first. I have checked and cleared my codes many times in the past using this procedure.

Before you try that if your Pathfinder doesn't seem to have any noticable issues you might just disconnect the battery cables for 1/2 hour or so to clear the codes. Then see if it comes right back on, if not it could have been a loose gas cap.
