Talking a newsworthy kill

I was driving on Highway 680 South through San Ramon last night in lane #2 just minding my own business and doing about 75mph. Then I see this crazy bastard in a late model blue BMW M3 come FLYING down the Crow Canyon Rd on-ramp to 680. By the time he gets on the freeway about 50yds-75yds in front of me he's doing at least 100mph easy. So the angel on my left shoulder is like, "he's trouble...let him be", but all I can hear is the devil on my other shoulder cuz he's like, "fuck that rich bastard...this is your freeway". So to be fair, since I listened to the angel last time, I floored it and at about 120mph I pass him (and his female passenger) in the left lane and let off the gas so he can hear the BOV....pssssssshhhhhhhhh!!! He guns it, quickly catches up and we are both doing about 95mph side by side. He took the bait. He looks over at me like all pissed off, so I gave him a thumbs up to break the ice. He sorta smiles and then his girlfriend waves at me. OK...that's cool too. So I motion with my hand for him to slow down so we can race from a 40mph-50mph roll. He starts to slow down but at about 55mph, without honking or anything he just punches it! I quickly follow suit, but since I was looking in the rear view mirror when he punched it, I'm instantly like 2+ cars behind him. By 80mph I made up one car. By 100mph we were even. By 120mph I had half a car on him. I shut it down shortly after that and so did he. I slowed down to give him another thumbs up before I got off at the 580/680 interchange but he was still hauling ass and my exit is a 45mph on-ramp so I had to hit the brakes and let him go by before we had a chance to "exchange pleasantries". Anyhow...I was pumped. This is the first race against a real car I've had since I put in the new PCM. Money well spent!

My mods are...

Stage 1, K&N drop in filter, Eibach springs and endlinks, & Mopar BOV.

No idea what he had done to the car but since it still had dealer plates on and it wasn't very loud I'm assuming it was pretty much stock.

Re: a newsworthy kill

Was it an E36 or E46 M?

E36:

E46:

Either way, it'll be a late-model if it had stock paint, as Estoril Blue was/is only available from 1998 and up for the E36's, IIRC. The E46 is Laguna Seca Blue.

Re: a newsworthy kill

Must have been an E36 because I dont think he would beat a E46 even in the top end. Good kill the E36 is a hell of fast car too and it has a great top end so more credit to you and your car.

Not necessarily: http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...hreadid=150418

That's a modded E46 in that link.

EDIT: Stock E46's trap at about 104MPH. Stock 2004 SRT's can trap as high as 102MPH. With his mods, it's more than believable that he can do what he did to an E46, although I agree that an E36 would be more believable.

Re: a newsworthy kill

It was the bottom one...the E46. It had dual exaust...twin tips at both outlets. The older E36 model has a single dual tip outlet if I remember correctly.

EDIT: Good post carnut. You get around man. It's nice to see the Bavarian aristocracy say nice things about the American peasants and their turbo'd econoboxes. In all honesty though, that's a much better place to post and learn things then the SRT forums. An M3 post in the SRT forums would get eatin' alive by the pimple faced pirahna trolls long before they had chance to actually learn anything about the car.

Good kill. I should post my kill on an srt4 on their forums. I'm interested to see how much trash they talk, heheh. I know I shouldn't start trouble but I'm really curious. 'Ey, if I decide to I'll post you guys up a link, hehe.

Ya I read that too already, I guess you got to think about the weight the E46 is like 3400lbs give or take. Damn SRT-4s making my dream car seem less dreamy Guess the only thing I can say is GOT LEATHER?

Re: Re: a newsworthy kill

Thanks for the compliments guys. Just to be clear though I would definately trade in my SRT-4 for an M3 (E36 or E46) in a heartbeat if it was financially feasible. It's one thing for me to have a good run on the freeway, but those M3's are the complete package IMHO...cornering, braking, acceleration, comfort, reliability, craftmanship, etc.

You should definately post the story. There are too many young guys in there that thing the SRT-4 is the fastest thing around. It's actually getting better though lately because some of the more senior SRT-4 owners have stepped up and more or less told the younger guys to listen and learn. There are handfull of Camaro guys in there too that will inevitably argue in your behalf if people don't like your story.

LMAO! Finally...I was starting to have withdrawals. You know they're eating Self alive over there right now! In less than 3 hours he already had 3 pages of replies. Like I told him, they play by prison rules over there. It's cut-throat!

<whistles> Damn, I'm impressed. My Tib couldn't do that on a freeway run (at least I haven't had the time to try it lately), plus, I haven't had the $$$ for mods right now, but I am "grocery shopping"
