Brake light stays on....

The last 2 or 3 weeks when i take my e-brake out the light still stays lit. Sometimes it will go off but then it will go back on after a little while.

I also have a problem with my rear wiper blade, i think my switch is messed up cause i can turn it on fine but then it takes a while to get it to stop. I have to hit the button like 50 times to get it to turn off.

And yes my last question, i am getting new brake pads... is there really any that are better than the others??? Anyone want to point me in any certain direction.

3k isnt just a car...... it's a life!!!!

by your ebrake light I assume you mean the general brake light, and thats because your brake fluid is low. However you wont have to top it off because when you get new pads it will push more fluid back into the resivoir.

Re: Brake light stays on....

By my brake light i mean the red light to the left of the speedometer that appears when you pull your e-brake. Will me replacing my pads fix this problem or were we thinking of two different things?

How much are these brake pads to be shipped and everything in dollars.

Anyone know anything about the windshield washer problem?

Brake Pads

you are looking around $150 for the brake pads and around $40 shipping.
yes that will put the light out, the reason it is on is because your caliper pistons are pushed further out due to the pads being worn down.

as regards to your rear windshield it could be down to the switch itself or the delay relay (for intermittent wipe.) does it do it on both positions of the switch?

i would also recommend a complete brake fluid change if it looks dirty,
my gto brakes feel completely different since i changed mine.

Re: Brake light stays on....

It is my rear windshield wiper, which is on a button switch to the right of the steering wheel. It just takes forever to turn it off, so it isn't a intermittent wiper, i think it is the switch... i dont know what i could do about that besides get a new switch, which would probably cost a lot. It really sucks to not use that wiper.

I do think that the brake light is cause by my brake fluid... i will check that after work.

brake light and pads

I had the same thing with the brake light, I was low on fluid. I also changed my front pads and upgraded to the Stillen MetalMatrix pads. These are good pads, I think I got them from 3sxperformance.com for 55 bucks (110) if replacing the rear pads as well. My only complaint is that because of the metal, you have to heat them up a bit before they reach ideal stopping power. I read somewhere that the MetalMatrix pads were still pretty good in cold conditions. But honestly there have been a few times where I would have liked more stopping power. In all honesty though, our stock brakes are quite good and do not really need to be upgraded unless you plan to be flying at speeds over 150mph often. I have heard many other people say the redstuff pads are quite good. So I would go with something like that. Check around on the internet at various sites and you may be able to save some money.

Hold up, i think you guys are confused.

The brake light that you are talking about is the light between the speedometer and the tachometer. This light comes on when the e-brake is activated. The e-brake is DIFFERENT from the rear disc brakes. The e-brake is a drum brake inside the rear hubs (see pic below from the manual), and the rear disc brakes (which operate along with the front disc brakes when you push the break pedal) are on the discs outside of the rear hub assembly.

You can adjust the e-brake 2 ways. You can either take apart the rear hub assembly and adjust the spring there (hard way) OR you can remove the center console storage box (behind the shifter, cig lighter, ash tray directly between the two front seats) and adjust the e-brake cable there. Simply, with a wrench, turn the bolt to the left or right (i forget which way) to tighten or loosen the e-brake.

As to your question regarding the e-brake light staying on...perhaps your e-brake is not fully disengaged when you take it off. This would occur if your e-brake cable is adjusted to a very tight setting. By simply loosening the cable via instructions above, this should solve the problem.

As to your rear wiper problem, it sounds like your switch. If the switch is stuck, you might remove it and inspect it to see if it operates smoothly and look for any objects/pieces hindering movement. But you might just get a new switch. I've seen them on e-bay for about 10 bucks.

Good luck.

Yea I was having that problem too, till I went through a big hole in the road. The problem started when my mom decided to ram my car because she wanted to get to a salon on time and it was blocking her in the driveway... I think it only needs to be tightened but if it ends up being more she'll pay . She told me to move it but I couldent because I had a box with a new tower computer and monitor in it in my arms!

you might check the fuse box, underneath the dash on the driver's side, just next to the hood latch.
