Exclamation has anyone installed subs in their 88-99 silverado EXT cab

Hi all i am wondering if any of you might have some subs put in your Silverado's. If you do have some put in please leave what kind, size, where, and how you had them put in and what you used if you installed them yourself. Also i can't forget what kinda of head unit you are using.

Thanks for the help.

In my 99 silverado I have 2 JL Audio 10w6v2. They are in invidual boxes under the rear seat facing down. They just barely fit but they are perfect. The truck slams. I also installed 4 JL 10w6v1's in a 93 silverado. we dropped the floor to give more room and let the speakers hit up.

I had two Boston Acoustic Pro 12s firing down in my old 91 Chevrolet. They hit pretty good. I also had a Kenwood head unit. When I bought my current truck, I had the Bostons in for a little while, then went to the Audiobahn Flame Q 12s. These things freaking hit like crazy. I now have a Panasonic indash dvd/cd player and love it. Here's a picture of my current subs and box. I know it's not an extended cab, but these things are badass. They will make your truck really hit. One piece of advice though, if you do go with these subs, be prepared to throw some serious watts at them They will handle 1100 watts continuously and I've got 600 to each one right now. They're begging for more, but I'm concentrating on performance rather than sound right now.

I used a mtx thunderform box in my 02 ext cab. Kenwood head unit, audiobahn 10" subwoofers, and an MTX 801 D amp. I bought the box from circuit city. you can get it with the subs or without. box is a little pricy though. Also you can check out www.subbox.net

Re: has anyone installed subs in their 88-99 silverado EXT cab

I have two Memphis M-Class 12's (Pinnacle of Memphis' sub line), 4 Alpine 4X6's in stock locations, 2 standard tweeters on the A Pillar, pushed by a Fosgate 300W amp, and a Pioneer 4800 something or other indash CD/MP3 player. The subs are in a custom built dual sub down-firing box built and installed by the same guys. The subs are great! They hit the really low notes and the head unit has a nice equilizer on it to avoid passing highs through the subs, and lows through the highs and mids. My next move is to upgrade to the Kicker Solobaric 12's. Nothing slams like a Solobaric. And when it comes to subs, you get what you pay for. Also, downfiring is the way to go. Forward facing enclosures make the cone noise more audible whereas with down-firing boxes, all you hear is the Thud.

I have had friends that ripped out their rearseat in their trucks just to fit their boxes in, but mine fits snuggly under the backseat of my extended cab GMC (no passengers allowed in the back due since they would have to put their feet on my box though). When I crank mine it halfway up you can't stand to sit in there with the windows up, the plus is at the same time, you can't here the subs from the outside either. But I have gotten pulled over for a Noise Violation while driving down the Interstate doing 70mph with it halfway up and my windows down, and I have dual Flowmaster 40's, so that is saying something about how loud it blasts!

Re: has anyone installed subs in their 88-99 silverado EXT cab

I have had everything from 8's-12's behind the seat of my 95 reg cab. I currently have 2 CVR 12's running off a kx600.1 with a pioneer HU. My components are Kicker 6.5 and Kicker 4x6

If you are looking for a way to do it yourself, I would recomend you build a box that slides under the back seat. You can buy them prefab, but if you do that and plan on running any kind of major power I would recomend bracing the inside of the box.
