Question EGR Valve location and cleaning

Hey cats.

Okay, first things first. I got the dreaded Check Engine Light. Took it to the local Autozone and got it diagnosed and yup. The dreaded EGR Malfunction code followed by an even more dreadful price for the replacement part. So yeah, I've seen wedding rings that cost less. Anyways. I need to know some things which I have carefully numbered for you convenience and any help will be valued. Unless I get a reply like 'smoke weed everyday'.

'98 1.5L Mazda Protoge

1. Where is the EGR located on this car?
2. How do I remove it?
3. How do I clean it?
4. What products did you use?

Hell, if you just answer number one, I'll be happy.

Thanks again.

Re: EGR Valve location and cleaning

dude, just take the valve back, that aint the problem. remove the throttle body, youll see a nasty carbon buildup about 2-3 inches in. clean this mess out. then clean the vacuum port on the outside of the intake right next to the egr valve itself. the buildup is causing a false egr flow reading. use some carb cleaner and make sure you can blow through the ports with compressed air. theres should be free flow from the port you cleaned inside the intake to the external port next to the egr valve.

I took a pic ..... tell me which one is the EGR valve. I am guessing it's the thing just to the right of the exhaust port with a screw on each corner.
