replacing water pump
I had to have the water pump replaced on my 2000 Suburban. The local repair shop (not GM) had to also replace the fan clutch assembly. They said they could not get the old one off of the water pump. I am not mechanical, but this did not sound right to have to replace a good assembly. Is this a common thing to do (they said it was common), or do they not know what they are doing? It is a 5.3 with 80,000. Thank you for your info.

Re: replacing water pump
I just did a water pump on a '95 Sub and I realize much changed with the 2000 model year. It sounds bogus to me but what are you going to do about it? Did you receive back the old parts? Can you show that the old clutch fan was good and that it was possilbe to remove it from the water pump? How much did they charge you for this extra work? If you can show all this, then consider going back and asking for a refund (yeah, right-they'll just write you a check). You can then consider if you're willing to pursue a consumer complaint process with your state's MVD licensing division or file a case in small claims court. Good luck.
