Rear brake calipers
i have had three Regal (88,89,90) Customs all two door. Everyone of them had a problem with the rear passenger caliper sticking. I have replaced the caliper on a few occassions to no avail. I have given up on the caliper issue with my current Regal, so I am riding with three brakes. Is there anything I can do to get my caliper operational and stay that way?

Re: Rear brake calipers
New calipers is the only way! I would get a good replacement caliper not a cheap one.
About 2 years ago there was talk about a class action lawsiut against Gm about this problem but it kinda died out.

Re: Rear brake calipers
I had the same problem with my 1988 Buick Regal. After replacing the calipers several times to no avail I decided to seek help. It turned out to be the rubber hose that connects to the caliper from the brake line. Appartently, if the caliper gets too hot it will melt a plastic valve inside the line.
Three months after replacing the line the brakes are working fine. I got the line at Autozone for $18. Hope this helps. |

yes if the caliper is new the e-brake line isnt siezed and the slides on the caliper are ok then its the rupper brake hose! the inside rubber brakes and when u aply presure is does not let it back through the hose.... simple fix eassy and cheap! thats your problem...good luck replacing it....remember to bleed the brakes!

Re: Rear brake calipers
Does anyone know where to find a good overhaul procedure for rotors and pad installation on my '90 Regal? Thanks

Re: Rear brake calipers
Regarding the lawsuit against GM, I heard that there was one a few years ago and that if you owned a GM vehicle and had receipts for brake repairs before that time, you got a full refund. Doesn't apply to those of use who got GM vehicles after that date. According to this website, there was one, but you had to join it before 10/27/00.

Re: Rear brake calipers
buy good quality calipers with bronze slides, replace the hoses, and use your parking brake on occasion. You won't have another problem with your rear calipers.
