88 iroc or 94 v6

Wat's up every body ive got a question. Im in the process of buying a camaro and i really like this 88 iroc i found for 3,500 but my parents think i shuld go for a more reliable 94 v6. i prefer the iroc but it is older and i dont really want to be fixing it every weekend id rather be spending my momey on performance parts. Wat do u guys think?

I would definatley get the iroc...way more potential...but the decision is up to you my freind. You have to decide what you would rather have. The iroc can be just as reliable and twice as fun.

i have a 92 rs that i got for 1600, and its completely reliable. it has 140,000 miles on it. it has a 305 v8 w/ auto. i would go for the iroc, because w/ the v6 your only option to get high performance would be forced induction (turbo, super charger). w/ the iroc v8 you can push the naturally aspired limits or forced induction (i would prefer the options).

Re: 88 iroc or 94 v6

i have a 94 v-6 and i am telling you that you will want the iroc. especially when you tell people you have a camaro and then have to tell em its a six a. with the 3.4 you have little to no aftermarket options. i'm runnin out of mods and, except a few personal touches, all i got is a PCM, intake, tune-up, and exhaust from the headers back. unless you want to tear the engine out and rebuild the top end your kindof limited. also, i havent seen a forced induction made specifically for the 3.4 but if someone has let me know, its either that or an LT-1.

that's another thing actually, if u were to force induct a v6 u'd have to fab it up. about the lt1 tho, i have seen a turbo for it. its called a remote turbo kit, i've never seen one b4 so i couldn't tell u if it is good or not but here is a link

i know what youre talkin about with those remote turbo kits. basically they put the turbo back where your muffler goes. theyre pretty much bs because of the back pressure, turbo lag, and the fact that you lose half of your boost as the air is moving back up to the front of the car. thats after you've run all the lines to the back of the car, which sucks in itself. not to mention the fact that you have a 900 degree turbo sittin pretty under your gas tank...

the description claims that the wind will cool off the turbo and act similar to a intercooler. not sure i believe that tho, like u said they get hot as hell. if it didn't have so many flaws it'd be good, its a good idea, since the 4th gen's engine compartment is so crammed.

i can agree with you, its a good idea. there are just better, more practical means of getting more power out of the car...

i myself am gonna save up for a procharger intercooled s/c system. those things have crazy power increases not to mention less heat.

Re: 88 iroc or 94 v6

i would say buy the IROC, if you want reliablity, how bout this. i bought mine in arkansas, looked it over, it had not been loved, dont think it had ever had an induction service, had two crossed plug wires, a broken O2 sensor, bad tires, and the guy was the kind to ride the car hard and put it away wet. his 13 year old daughter had put in laps around the yard in it. that kinda stuff. drove it home 1100 miles without a hiccup, only after i was home for a bit, the trans 3-4 clutchpack gave out, so its been parked. then just recently, i drove it into a fence, took out the fence pretty good, hit it at a really good clip and caught the vertical post right on the nose of the car. after pulling it out, had a few ripped off heat sheilds under the car, front chin spoiler is toast, hood has a few dents, nose is questionable. but. fired right up, and i drove it home. again, without a hiccup, even drivin home in second gear at 3000rpm for half an hour, it stayed below 190 degrees. a car more reliable, i would be very impressed to see. i love that car

ya know for a couple grand more ya can get a lt1 4rth gen z28 . now whether they are very reliable I dont know. I got one that sittin out back cuz the rearend grenaded (start boosting hp and theyll do that). Payed 5k for my 97 altho its not perfect. It came with all the goodies tho . Im still working all the bugs out once Im done it will be a pretty sick ride altho its already pretty fast. Of course in the meantime Im driving my 183k mile 84 z28 . Now thats a reliable car.
