Iraqis want to put Americans on trial.

I say let them put them on trial - justice for all right?

yay that actually sounds like a good plan but wouldn't that mean it would be some of the current administration?

Re: Iraqis want to put Americans on trial.

The thread title sounds like Iraq wants America on trial. The story is seems to be actually about putting former administration officials on trial.

http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0126-10.htm (Note that this is a left leaning web site and this is basically all they could come up with)

-- Hewlett-Packard sold $1.7 million worth of computers and electronic testing equipment to the Iraq government in the 1980s.
-- Bechtel sold products related to Iraq's conventional weapons program in the 1980s. (though they did not list what those were)
-- Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories (Livermore and Albuquerque) helped train Iraqi nuclear weapons scientists in the 1980s. Source: Andreas Zumach, German newspaper reporter

The Soviet Union supplied the bulk of their weapons and training. The list of weapons (guns, tanks, mortors, scuds...) is to long to list and easy enough to find. The French supplied weapons as well, the Mirage F-1 being the most obvious. http://www.zap16.com/iraqi%20air%20force.htm

The point of all this is there were other countries involved in selling Sadam arms. Singling out the US which potentially sold as much to him as France did (though the nuclear reactor Israel bombed was built by France and that cost a shitbucket) but not mention Russia for their role, is duplicious.

Re: Re: Iraqis want to put Americans on trial.

I see nowhere in the article that says they don't want to put anybody else on trial... do you Yogs?
The point of the article was that they feel they should put those responsible for selling weapons to Saddam on trial, this particular article was about the Americans being involved, being that Americans would probably be more interested in Americans being put on trial, than Frenchmen.
Hopefully, the: "Bob was doing it too, and he's not going to get spanked" argument doesn't seem like it's going to work here.
but it's doubtful that a country that's so adamant in it's belief about "justice and liberty for all" would let such trials take place, because no government likes to admit it was wrong.

Thats also a weak arguement. If we are now to assume that things are going to happen that are not written about, why we can make anything up we want. hmmm.... now that is how a lot of people operate around here.

I don't have issue with actions being put on trial. I do take issue with how those trials are run. If selective prosecution is done (say with only black perpetrators) you can pretty much guess what the reaction would be. But, because this is about the US, some people feel its just deserts.

Re: Iraqis want to put Americans on trial.

The people trialed would probably be the reaginites (which are present in this administration too) bush sr administration and of course this administration. If it's to be fair.

Re: Re: Re: Iraqis want to put Americans on trial.

I don't think it's a weak argument, I probably wouldn't have posted it if it was about Iraqis wanting to put Russians on trial. As for this administration supplying Iraq with weapons - let's say that's at least one thing GWB didn't do, he sould get a gold star and extra recess for that one.

Re: Iraqis want to put Americans on trial.

Yogs for the last time i don't care about any of your political systems. However reagen administration, bush sr. administration and current bush admininstration have very very strong ties have shared very similar visions, goals, etc... I don't see what I'm tipping over, perhaps reality not believing a political label -_-;

Notice the LOVELY picture of Rumsfield while he was in reageanite administration I posted No one cares heh He after all directed all this war.. he should get an ass spanking at the least if not execution! He was saddam's best buddy!

Pictures speak a thousand words.

Oh and that site where the picture is located is DEFINETELY a left-wing site calling itself the national security archives. Poor george washington university, it'll get secret service agents after them soon.. tssk tssk those left wing commis bastards!!!!!!

OH MY GOD YOU'RE RIGHT! The fact that a picture exists showing two people shaking hands means that they are in cahoots! How silly of me, how could I have missed something so obvious? Lets see. Bush shook Clintons hand so he must be a scumbag like him. But Clinton shook hands with Arafat. But, he shook Castros hand who once shook hands with Babe Ruth. I've seen pictures of him shaking FDR's hand.

Thats it. This whole issue is a result of FDR. Thank goodness your wonderful logic came to the rescue.

Yogs, sarcasm is beatiful when you use it against yourself There is little hope to help a guy who is so devout to republican views, that if they told you to jump of a cliff you would.
