Transmission Help

I having a 350 built for my car and I was wondering what a new transmission is going to cost me. Or since I'm having built if I even need one. I am actually restating a previously asked question to which I mistated and therefore did not get the answer I was looking for.

Well, if you're gonna replace it, when you swap the engine out is the time to do it since you can drop both in at the same time - you may also need a new flywheel, torque converter, crossmember, driveshaft, shifter, cable (maybe an external cooler), and you may have to get the coolant lines run or welded - it can definitely get expensive (I had to do every single one of these things)

If you do get a new trans, I would go with a TH350 or 400 unless you want gas mileage, then get the 700R4 (if it's an automatic) - an M6 would be pretty sweet

I just did a trans/engine swap and believe me, it's not as easy as you originally think - I overshot it by around 12 hours plus (so if you're paying someone to do it they might charge you more than the original estimate)

As for the price, unless you know what you're doing and what parts you need it's pretty impossible to even give an estimate IMO

What year car is this? What kind of trans are you looking for? So many questions. I'll just tell you what I know, so this will be short. If this is an older car then I would recommend the turbo 350 because it is a great trans and just as effective as the 400 unless you plan on running some serious horse power. Also the 350 is a much lighter trans. A new turbo 350 will cost from around $600 and up. A junk yard turbo 350 will run around 150 and up. If you want it rebuilt the average price is around $400. A non overdrive trans is alot cheaper in many different ways so if your looking for a 700R4 it will probably start out around $1500 and way up. A rebuild for this trans will run in the ballpark of $700 to $1000. If your going from a Turbo350 and want to install a 700R4 and your car is not set up for this trans then you will most likely need a lockup kit cause a 700R4 trans lockup is controlled by the computer. The cost for a lockup kit is $125. Also for the Turbo 350 I would recommend a B&M shift kit ($40) cause it will prolong the life of your trans and will give you firmer shifts. Very easy to install, Just drill out two holes in the new plate in the valve body and remove and relocate a couple of check balls. If this is a 3rd gen car and your thinking of going with a turbo 350 you will need a bracket that bolts to the back of your trans to hold the torque arm on cause the 3rd gen did not come with a turbo 350.Through B&M the bracket is $80. Anyway ... what was the question again?
