And so Marvin rises from the ashes once again!

After 19 days of downtime, my green beast of wonder has once again been resurrected For those who missed my Happy @#$%ing New Year post, the headgasket blew again.

The first weekend we tore down the motor and a friend of ours who has a port n polish business took the cylinder head and cleaned things up a bit. No performance work was done, just some clean up. He blasted the combustion chamber area and valves, replaced the valve seals and also had the head machined while everything was out. Turns out my head did have some warping. So after 2 weeks he brought it back and put the head on and set my timing. We took care of the rest and cleaned out the engine bay and motor really good. After everything was back together I started it and the motor fired right up. No check engine light came on Last time we did this, the timing wasn't quite right so the light had come on. There's still ALOT of crap left in the cooling system so before Marvin hits the road regularly again the car will be parked til I get it in for a good flush. I may have to wait til next payday though since this took a chunk out of what we were supposed to send off to savings....but the money was there so we didn't have to do anything on credit

Just thought I would share

Later this week when i have some time I will post up the before and after pics of the head...oh and he also did my intake manifold as well...both of which were pretty nasty.

Until the next thing goes wrong

I have come to the conclusion that I have a "special needs car" and that it rode the "short truck" to the dealer when it rolled off the assembly line

Actually though, it should be good for awhile since my friend did all that work to the head. We should have had that work done last year, but time and money were a factor in why it didn't get done. At least it didn't cost us as much this year as it did last year.

Wouldn't it be more cost effective to simply sell the little green terror and buy a more reliable car?

Well, we're not really in a position to finance a car right now, well we could, but we wouldnt be putting any money into savings. My green beast isn;t even worth $3K anymore and I worry that if I buy a used car of that value or less, I may be bringing home problems that make mine look like a flat tire. That and I still have a retarded attachment to it since it's my first new car, and I put more work (fun work) into it than my last 2 cars. We also know this car inside and out so if something needs to be done we can do it in no time. If I am able to borrow a car then we can do it at our leisure. The only thing we havent tackled on this car yet is breaking open the tranny....and fingers crossed, hopefully wont have to since I get it serviced every 15K miles. I'd like to keep it around at least until money is better to where I could get a better car and we still can put into savings.

I love the on going saga with your 'special needs' car. One more cluster fuck similar to those of late and you KNOW you're ready for kids.

I own a dodge so don't take offense but, typical dodge, in my experiences they always need to be rebuilt over time, although to be fair it only seems certain years had a load of problems.

And, if Marvin dies, Hogie will be happy to replace him with a tan sweater
