Jetta Power Steerig Fluid?

2000 jetta gls 2.0 - this may sound stupid, but is it possible to check the power steering fluid level in this car. owners manual has no info at all? is this another one of those dealer service only VW rip offs?

If engine compartment is similar to my 99.5 Jetta 2.0, it is visible (can't say for sure on other models). The gray-colored round thing to the left (facing windshield), on belt side just left of black intake cover.
