Mechanical Problems w/ 97 3kgt
I have a 97 3000 gt SOHC, and exactly at 2500 revs the engine makes a tapping noise. Now, this usually happens on 2nd and 3rd gears, sometimes 4th. Is it a serious problem that needs attention, cause to be honest its annoying the shit out of me. If I could get some info on this particular problem it would be really useful before I take it in to get repaired. I want to be informed and I don't want to get ripped off by some mechanic that thinks I don't know shit about cars...........

most likely you have lifter tick. you can live with it, or buy 99' lifters at $300 plus install.

1) Engine Flush (about $3). Follow the directions.
2) Drain Oil...let it drip til it stops. 3) Precharge new filter with RISLONE. 4) Dump Rislone into engine. 5) Complete fill with Dino Castrol GTX 10W40 or 10W30. (or your favorite) After a couple days the lifter tick is greatly reduced to even gone. (it'll still be there a bit on start up and real cold mornings till the engine warms up).
