Opinions please

First of all - I will only ask this once, and I won't ask the same thing 3 different ways , BUT......

$5,000 budget

Should I use the $ to mod:

A. 1987 5.0 LX with AOD, silencer removed, K+N filter, 150,000 miles on all original engine, no other mods. Tranny has been rebuilt, the engine has never been touched.

or

B. 1999 GT with AOD, silencer removed, K+N filter, 3.73 gears, 37,000 miles, no other mods.

I am not looking to buy either, I own both. I am leaning towards my GT because: 1.) I'm thinking my 5.0 would cost me even more $ to mod cuz it would first need a rebuild in addition to mods due to it's mileage. 2.) From my small amount of knowledge of AOD's, and what I've been told, the 99's AOD is stronger than the 87's. and 3.) The 87, if kept stock, and original, may be worth something more down the road, than one that is modded.

Thoughts? and thanks in advance

I don't think your 87's value will be affected much by modding in the future. Its not very rare. That being said, I would do the 99 because of reason 1 you listed. On the other hand, the 87 will be easier to mod.

Re: Opinions please

I'd do the 87, just cause they are super easy to work on, and have more you can do at a cheaper price tag. Just so you know, the AOD was last used in V8 mustangs in 93, after that the AOD-E was used V8 stangs.

Oh, and if anything, the 87 will be worth more down the road because of what's in it.

I would go with the 87 for pretty much the same reasons, the number one reason for me is cheaper parts. Besides you can put a real mean motor in that 87 with $5,000.

go with the 87. you can get a nice stroker shortblock alone for like $2500. Then add some aluminum heads, intake and cam and your set all for undercost yet!

if i had that kind of scratch i'd do the engine rebuild of my fantacys on the 87. the one that ends up with me giving the o-face to a rebuilt stroker.

Re: Opinions please

my 347 complete cost almost 8k.
but if you sell the existing motor, or use some of the existing parts that are on it, you can prob do it for 5k.
happy hoda hunting!

i would do the 87... mostly because that's my favorite chassis, although i would prefer just 1 year earlier =D. also, i hate mod motors. not my style, i guess. just my opinion, tho.
