Re: 69 or 70
as far as chargers go i like the 68 best... but since you want either a 69 or a 70 i would go with the 70. mainly because of the grill... in the 68 model the headlights wre hidden and the car was a bit faster than the 70 (68 0-60 in 5.3, 70 0-60 in 5.5) but the hp and how fast it is all depends on you. a 440 came out with 375 the magnum did n e way, and the 383 come with 335 also magnum, so it all depends on what you get and how much money you got to put into it, as for a 69 or 70 deffinitely the 70, but i still think the 68 looks better than both of em...

Re: 69 or 70
Definitely a personal choice as the differences are mainly styling. It all depends on what is available in your price range.

Re: 69 or 70
go with the 70, it was the last year before they started lowering engine power (hp and torque) basically because too many people were crashing them and as you probably know they aren't nearly as safe as current autos. so for insurance reasons they lowered power. Also, we were on the brink of a gas crisis and the pollution became more of a problem so naturally to achieve better effencicy they lowered their engine number outputs. hopefully this makes sense to you and i haven't rambled too far off of the subject.... go w/ the 70

Re: 69 or 70
68 or 70... love the long uninterrupted grills on those two. 70 has those kick arse fake side scoops!
69 still brings smiles from the Dukes of Hazzard fanbois. i'd love to own a black 68 charger with a 440/dana rear. oh the goosebumps! |

Re: 69 or 70
All three cars ('68-'70) are functionally equal. The only real differences for your purposes are appearance. As long as the car came with a 383 or 440 (or a Hemi, but you won't find one of them just layin' around looking to be bought...), the B/RB engine will fit without modification. While the car isn't as heavy as it looks, it's still a bit bulky for a small block to be really effective at a reasonable level of tune.
The 440 is the best man for the job. Parts are reasonable and power is easy to get. Disregard anything concerning compression ratios or emmission controls (why they dropped compression ratios), as all that will be addressed when your machinist designs your engine. It should be noted, there's one obscure model in '69, the "Charger 500", that, if you were lucky enough to find one, is the most aerodynamic of the non-winged things. You'll recognize it by the Coronet/Super Bee back window, instead of the Charger's normal "tunnel back" (like earlier GM A-bodies). Always liked those cars. Too bad they weren't "survivors" like the GM cars of the era. Too many have rusted out and blown away. Fords had the same problem. Finding any nice (low or no rust) '68 thru '70 would be a "both feet" situation if that's the body style of Charger you're after. As stated earlier, they're mostly the same but for some cosmetics. Don't get hung up on a particular year. |

Re: 69 or 70
yea, I like the 68 the best of all, even though we have a 70 R/T in the garage... overall either yr would be a great choice, but if I had to pick I'd go 70

Re: 69 or 70
Any of those would suit me. Even a Coronet would suit me!
OTOH, I'd rather have an E-body Barracuda or a Duster... |
