Re: Engien oil change schedule?

There should be a warning light on your dashboard which tells you when you need an oil change. Usually it is every 10,000miles.

Re: Engien oil change schedule?

I think doing what the factory (not dealer) asks for is enough.
Thats what I do with my Mercedes, and my dealer had told me this is enough to keep the car running in good condition.
If you don't trust the computer, you can always check the oil yourself.
because driving environment is also a big issue.
Also it is always good to check the owner's manual

Re: Engien oil change schedule?

I would change it every 3000-5000 miles with standard oil or 5000-10000 miles if you are using Synthetic oil. I follow that "rule" with all of my vehices, and it seems to work very well. I would highly reccomend Synthetic (especially Mobil 1 Synthetic) oil for your truck. It has done wonders for all my vehices. I use it in every one.

Re: Engien oil change schedule?

In my opinion the 12,000 mile oil change interval that BMW recommends is pretty self-serving. True, during the first 50,000 miles that the car is under warranty probably the engine will be fine. But what happens when the car is up in the 100,000 mile+ range? I plan to keep my X5 for many years so I change my oil every 6,000 miles. Also I question the viscosity of their oil (0-30). By they way my understanding is that this is Castror synthetic packaged as BMW. In hot climates, this goes contrary to common sense, especially if a vehicle is driven hard, towing, city traffic, etc.
