Re: Tuning when adding power upgrades?

Well it sounds like it would be a good idea to get it tuned by a professional.

First off you will need more than just a turbo and exhaust to make this all work. A boost guage would be a good idea, as well as AF guage.

The fuel map will most likley need to be re-programed because with an upgraded turbo you will be flowing more air so it will need more fuel, if this does not happen you hit fuel cut. Not good.

You should look into the subject a little more and find out exactly what you are planning on getting to make you 100hp extra.

Re: Tuning when adding power upgrades?

You actually take fuel out as you move more air. Tuning is absolutely key to making big power, or just making the most of what you already have. Some people will run 14s with 20Gs, while others run 11s. The differemce? Tuning. Learn it, love it, live it.

If you decide that its time to tune the car, you will need something that will affect the airfuel ratio. This is typically an Apexi AFC. Could also be VPC, DSMlink, emanage, etc. Once you have control, you need to know what to do with it. A datalogger is the key ingrediant. Learning how to read it is the tricky part. Make your changes, then datalog again to see if you did the right thing. Lather, rinse, and repeat as necessary. Dyno time is helpful but not necessary, and a wideband is helpful but not necessary. I do 99% of my tuning on I495 on the way to work The track is my favorite place though, since you will see the results in your mph, and its cheap (unlike dyno time).

Learning to tune isnt hard, but it takes time. If you start with a small setup you can learn with relative safety too. This is why I recomend people get a datalogger as one of thier first mods if money allows, and start tuning on the stock turbo. Dont jump right into the massive turbos, since one small mistake can get ugly real fast at high airflow. There are several online resources to start with. In fact, there may be a sticky on the rko forums in my sig. Kyle (kpt...) put together a good one for a logger and AFC combo that is all over the internet.

Good questions GSX88 this is something im also very interested in since i want more to make power but gradually, i dont wanna jump into anything and cause problems. What exactly is datalogging and how does the AFC work. Is there a site to learn about either one.

Thanks
Andy

Re: Tuning when adding power upgrades?

Go to the rko forum site in my sig, and there is a sticky in the DSM section called "ultimate tuning/AFC guide" or something like that. Should be a good start.
