Re: engine qeustion

Yes it is possible. A friend of mine did this for his sister awhile back. You would need a new computer for it as well. IF you have an SOHC motor you should replace it with a SOHC motor, and likewise with DOHC..do DOHC again.

I can ask him what all he had to do to make it work via email...he's been swamped with work lately so it may be some time before I get an answer.

Re: engine qeustion

SOHC = Single Overhead Cam, the motor has 1 camshaft

DOHC = Dual Overhead Cam, the motor has 2 camshafts...also referred to as "Twin Cam"

Here is an explanation on how cams work:

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/camshaft.htm

Here's a pic of my motor with the valve cover off:

See the metal bars (there is an orange stripe in the center of each one) with egg-like lobes on them? Those are my cams (DOHC motor).

Here's another shot:

howstuffworks.com is an excellent source to learn how cars (and almost anything else you can think of) works.

I also have a book called "How Cars Work". Each chapter goes over parts of the motor, suspension, etc. At the end of each chapter is a short quiz where you fill in the blanks in questions about parts. And that too is an excellent way to learn a thing or 2 about cars....and to educate yourself to keep shops from ripping you off
