New to the Accord family, wanted to say HI..

Hey all, as my first post may indicate, I just bought a sweet 94 Accord EX with 105k miles. It is black sedan with gray leather interior and runs like new. Just dropped $350 for new timing belts, water pump, seals and head gasket. Being new to the Accords, what else should I look out for at this mileage? Transmission feels pretty tight, how many miles do they usually go before going bad? Should I do a tuenup? Break pads are still good, halfway worn. Should I worry about the O2 sensor? Shocks? CV boots? 105k miles is a lot and am wondering at this mileage what potential problems to look for? Thanks.

I have a 94 Accord EX also and am pushing 127,000 miles. I haven't had any major problems yet.

My dad has a 95 Accord EX with 365,000+ miles on it and he hasn't needed to have any major work done to it. He has to drive 45 miles a day to work and back. He's had major tune-ups done but the dealership charges A LOT for those. Befriend a good mechanic and he may do it for 1/8th the price.

Hello!

Either your the mechanic(which you would already know these answers) or you have a damn good friend cause $350 is a damn good price for all the work not even including your headgasket. You sure it was the head gasket and not an intake gasket?

Honda parts are so expensive wait until they brake to replace them. Your O2 sensor could last 100k or it could last 200K.
My point is preventive maintinence with a honda should only include what they recommend. Anything more you might spend more in the long run then you needed too.

The tranny is no different. It could last 200K it could last 100K. Just follow the service intervals.

At 100K or 8-10 year mark no matter what, your going to be looking at tierods, shocks, maybe a few suspension bushings, tune-up. Get your valves adjusted along with the tune-up.

Re: New to the Accord family, wanted to say HI..

Hi. I had called up PS honda here in NY, got quoted $800 for this job, said hell no I ain't rich. Called around neighborhood mechanics got general quotes of $150 for labor so I went to PS Honda's parts center and bought;

2 pc belts......$110
3 seals..........$24
Water Pump...$80

Bought Gasket from mechanic for $50 so total actually came out to about $410. Heh, forgot about the gasket. So you are right Blazinmiller. Mechanic was not great, but OK. Will prolly try another one for the tuneup though. BTW, are tierods the same as steering rods? What symptoms should I look for when they are going bad? And what is a good price for a full tuneup? Thanks.

Re: Re: New to the Accord family, wanted to say HI..

Hi Maple, I love it already to death. Just sold my 96 Civic that was real fast but the wife wanted something bigger and safer and comfy so I got this baby. There is one very small rust spot above rear driver side wheel well but otherwise the body is great. I am currently dealing with a small vibration broblem while idling but otherwise, nothing too serious.

Re: New to the Accord family, wanted to say HI..

glad you love it heh Yeah Im kinda lucky.. once my car gets on the road ill never have to pay for labor again just for parts because my friends dad works on tractor trailers and like knows how to do everything so he teaches you how to do it so you can do it yourself in the future its kinda nice because i just pay for parts.. he already show my friend how to replace 93 accord brake pads and he helped him replace his cv joint.. it snapped on him... he payed 50 for it and brakes really cheap he said.... its great to know someone thou

Re: New to the Accord family, wanted to say HI..

Yeah man just get a tune up and you'll be str8 like 6 o'clock. I used to have a 87 accord and I bought it at 187K miles and I kept it to about 230k. The tranny went on me at about 220K, had to get it rebuilt ( I paid about 800) But that is because the car wasn't kept well. 105k is nothing for an accord. Your just starting to break it in. Just take care of that baby and it will show you love back!

Re: New to the Accord family, wanted to say HI..

HaHa... can ya'll guess what my mileage is on my speedometer?? I own a 94 2 dr COupe EX, w/ vtec. I bought the car 4 summers ago back in 2000 and it was at 124k miles. I am at 207k. The only problems I've had to dealt with was the axels since it's a front wheel vehicle. I race my car often so all these performance parts you put on.. one thing leads to another failure so my timing belt had went on me at one time. Luckily I was at a stop and my pistons and valves wasn't running at it's peak as if I was to be racin at that time... Otherwise that would have probably costs me my whole engine. But as for the timing belt issue, I've had problem with my ABS light coming on. I'm now looking into that problem as of this moment. Other than that, the car runs great. It's strong and it's awasome. Accords Rocks!!
