86 accord engine in an 89 accord LXi?

Okay here is the deal, my friends bought an automatic 89 accord LXi for $75 that needed a motor transplant. they pulled the 89 engine and bought an engine that came out of a manual 86 accord. they planned on just taking the flywheel off of the 86 and put the automatic one on from the 89. I thought that there would be some differences in the years and the fact that it was out of a manual. so what I want to know is: is this going to work? any help would be appreciated. thanks
