98 Bravada Won't start.

A day ago, i was driving and the "security" light came on... i didn't know what it meant so i looked it up when i got home and it said some shit about "passlock" but when i went to leave again the light didn't come on so i didn't worry about it...

I came home today and when i turned the ignition off the car didn't shut off, i was like WTF! so i turned it to the "on" position again and tried turing it off.. worked the car was off... but just now when i went outside i tried to start it and all i hear is clicking when i try to turn it over..

The battery is fine, green light and i tried jumping it... so i know it has somthing to do with the ignition but i'm not sure if the passlock disabled somthing b/c it was acting up the other day.. I hear the fuel pump engage so i know that part isn't disabled like the manual says when the passlock engages...

Any clue on what coudl be causeing this problem? when i don't ahve the key in the light in the cabin are bright, but when i turn the assessories on the lights turn dim and the cabin lights wont turn off when i leave the car.... i'm at a loss, i'm not used to dealing with these cars... lol

I love my Acura more lol it doesn't bitch

I'm just learning about this myself so, bear with me. Passlock is the theft deterent system built into your GM car. When you put the key in, it detects the key in the ignition and sends a signal to the cars computer telling it to allow the car to start. If it doesn't get the correct signal, it can disable several things, the fuel and starter are among them. I have read about several items which may help you:

- Try a different key, since there is nothing special about the key in your year model. The special part is in the lock cylinder. The difference in the wear on the key may be enough to send the correct signal to the cars computer.

- Wait for the security light to go out. Turn on the car, but don't crank it. I have heard of having to wait 10 minutes for some systems and 45 minutes for others. When the security light goes out, you should be able to crank the car.

If either of these things work for you, you may need to replace the lock cylinder. You should figure on spending 200-300 for the part or 500 for the dealer to fix it for you.

Re: 98 Bravada Won't start.

99 bravada has newly replaced starter but now clicking and shorting out power (engaging back rear window and messing with clock). It has a new battery this summer, new alternator in May and new fuel pump last fall. Cleaned terminals and still the same problem. Moving gas petal in and out gets in fully started. Bad ground? Any suggestions?
